Personal Hour Records
Discussion
All the publicity surrounding Wiggins' Hour Record, and the daft Strava challenge that was nothing more than 'can you ride for a hour?', got me wondering. What's the furthest I've been in an hour.
As I posted in another thread, there's nothing on Strava (that I can see) to tell me. It's all how long to do a given distance rather than how far in a given time. But there is on VeloViewer. Sadly there's no column in the summary of activities showing the data, but under each activity there's the option to display 'splits', including the best 60-minute split within that activity.
On yesterday's Tour of Cambs the best I managed in an hour was 33.5 km. That'll be unimpressive to most on here but it's the furthest I've been in an hour to date.
I wonder how much closer to 54.5 km the fastest riders on here have got...

Did 19.49 miles yesterday in 60 mins (31.18km)
Did 23.72 miles in 60 mins on 23/4/11 (37.95km)
I picked the 23/4/11 as it was reddish on veloveiwer when I searched by speed. Would be good if you could just see your best 60 overall. Might email them and request it.
I mailed asking that on Saturday, and the guy very kindly came back saying it would be technically possible but require a heap of work to go through the historic activities. He could do it, but would look to make it part of an enhanced subscription to cover the effort required.Did 23.72 miles in 60 mins on 23/4/11 (37.95km)

I've just replied asking if it would be as hard to store for new activities only, but then I haven't got much history and it didn't take long to go through each manually.

It would be quite good to know for sure, but it looks like my best is 36km in the second hour of last years Velothon Berlin (sopping wet). I averaged 35.5kmh for the distance so chances are a rolling hour somewhere in there was higher. Pretty comparable to the flat sections of RideLondon too.

I'd been thinking about trying an hour for myself, but it would be out on the roads, on a circular route (or one like an Allegro steering wheel
). I've programmed my Garmin with a hard hour session - z3 for 20 mins, z4 for 20 mins, z5 for 10 then back to z4 for the last 10. So far, I have bottled out of actually doing it so have no idea how realistic it would be for me. I think I would be pleased with 20 mph or more.
