My father recently had heart bypass surgery and his doc recommended I get a cholestorol check, I think it checked out OK.

Gamma GT levels were high whatever they are. Lot of heart disease on my father's side of the family. I've never smoked though.

It means you are an old Lancia I think, I would ask a doctor what it means.

Gamma GT is alcohol-related. Your dad likes a drink. Doesn't look terminal.

His total cholesterol is okay, but it isn't a very useful number on it's own. They used to want everyone to lower it and so prescribed statins for all (and free swimming pools for prescribing doctors, but that's none of my business). But too low is bad for your stroke risk, and anyway statins are a whole new set of undisclosed risks. Anyway, 4.0 is "okay, should probably be higher".

HDL is called "the Good One", but that isn't really true either. Your liver generates Triglycerides which go on to be VLDL to LDL to HDL and ideally you want more HDL (or a lower total:HDL ratio). His profile is "okay, could be better". Probably on a high carb diet and alcohol, like just about everyone else in the West.

IANAD, YMMV, but I've been stabbed plenty and read about it a lot.

Thanks for the info, that's actually my blood test results.

True enough about the diet and alochol though! Too much beer, bread and pasta. I never got to speak to my doc about it, just picked up the sheet from the receptionist but I don't think they were concerned about anything at all.
