Skoda Octavia Estate 1.4 TSI
Discussion
I'm considering buying an Skoda Octavia Estate as a good value load lugger and have had a very good offer on a new 'Elegance' 1.4 TSI (140PS)with delivery miles for 17.5K. It's great spec including part leather / fake leather interior and all the usual SE additions. Had a test drive and I was very impressed with the power train.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with 140PS vs the newer 150PS engine and if I'd be better off waiting for this newer EU6 rated engine?
Many thanks.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, it's the SE L version as the 'Elegance' name has apparently been dropped since the intro of the 150PS engine. As it turns out, I found a website selling the new 150PS version of the 1.4 TSI with manual gearbox and all the usual SE L extras, including my list of wants: sports suspension, beige leather interior, 3 spoke steering wheel, metallic paint and the standard 17" wheels for just 18K including delivery on a trailer. That's 4.2K less than the Skoda book price and 2K less than the dealer's best offer. There's a 12 week wait but I don't mind.
Boy, haven't little engines come along way? I was expecting to laugh at the 1.4 and have to opt for the 2L Diesel (do not like diesels) - but I had exactly the opposite reaction. The petrol was a bit of a revelation to me, i've never owned a car with such a small displacement. It felt as fast as yesteryears 2L turbo's and it can be cheaply chipped to 180-190 hp and it's frugal and very quiet and smooth with a good linear power delivery.

I don't want to rain on your parade, I am currently shopping for a new car and was very interested in one of these engines in a Leon... There is a timing chain issue with the FSI units, a poorly designed tensioner has made the engine prone to jumping teeth leading to valves and pistons colliding... Have a search

Doesn't affect these. The new MQB chassis cars use an EA211 version of the 1.4 TSI which is not chain driven, and instead has a lifetime cambelt. They seem significantly better than their predecessors and I'm not aware of any problems emerging from the first couple of years on sale.Dnahacker said:

That applies to the 122PS engines not the ACT engines. Will it definitely not have the 150PS engine if a factory build? I've ordered a new Octavia SE hatchback with the 2L diesel, but was told that any factory orders now would be 2016 model year.
Which I'd have thought means either you should get the 150, or that my dealer wasn't being completely honest with me...
Mine was already built and on its way to the UK, incidentally, so is definitely 2015 model year and so the above is based on what I was told rather than first hand experiences.
Should be taking delivery in the next couple of weeks. Really looking forward to getting it - my FN2 Civic Type-R has been great for 87k miles from new, but now meets virtually none of my needs for being baby friendly and a smooth, economical cruiser.

I've got the 1.4 150 ACT in a Leon, it's a cracking engine. Average mpg is around 45mpg, and seen as much as 56mpg on a longer run. It's also very refined with decent performance when you need it.
No reliability issues with mine and not heard of any either. It's used about 500ml of oil in 13k miles so far, well within acceptable useage.
