Chased this down the A14 today. Real or rep?

Either way definitely driven as intended.

It had something hanging down underneath that seemed perilously close to the tarmac.

Car turned off at bury st Edmund so wondered if it was paul Stephens as he's based round there I think

Reg number FGV404L, lhd

It'd help enormously if the image had more than 12 pixels.

Hmmm, good point. But I was driving and he was quite a long way ahead so I've had to crop the image and resize it.

Thought perhaps someone might know the car or reg.

I'm guessing it's a replica given the "spirited" way it was being driven.

I think it is real. Restored by Canford Classics around 5 years ago. I think I have sat in it - the colour, LHD and number plate all ring bells.

Excellent. I was really hoping it might be real.

Don't know what these things are worth but he wasn't treating it with kid gloves. A few cars and vans kept getting inbetween us but I was having to fairly gun it in my 993 to keep up and he was fairly testing out his brakes when he came up behind things.

I'd like to think I'd drive it like that if I owned it, but suspect I'd be constantly worried about the value.

Surely going for even a fairly brisk blat isn't a big deal in a real 2.7RS? It's not like it's sideways in Kielder or in the pack at the Goodwood revival.

Im glad someone has said it. Why does everyone think that if you drive something that has a high value, that it either falls apart, blows up or is suddenly worth nothing?

It just doesnt work like that. Thats a real 2.7RS and he could drive it every day and it would still be worth a fortune.

Agreed, although as I say the owner of this one seemed happy to use it as intended.

As I was driving to my meeting I was trying to remember when I last passed another 993 on the road. Which led me to thinking I hadn't seen any other air cooled 911's of any type for ages, then a few minutes later this 2.7rs appeared in my rear view.

It made my day.

A friend of mine has a genuine RS - a Lightweight - and he sorns it from Nov to April, then uses it regularly from May.

And, he drives it in a 'spirited' manner.

In fact, he let me have a drive in it a couple of years back. At first, getting out of a 997 Turbo, it felt a bit dated and I was very cautious, but in no time it clicked, and it really is a car you can chuck around and steer on the throttle - fantastic chassis and engine. Made the 997 feel like a tank wink

I think the car would give you more grief if you drove at constant motorway speeds or just short trips to the pub. They really need to stretch their legs & lungs once in a while.

Saw a 993 in the B&Q car park weekend - with the front end caked in flies and road grime presumably after a high speed run. No garage queen.

They are all used for the daily grind, no time for B road blasts.
