Give me a clue here guys. I'm in a hotel room with a Telecaster, I re-strung it a week ago before I left and now even after tuning it to high accuracy it sounds bloody awful, so I check the intonation which sure enough is all over the place but I can't get it anywhere near.
On the low E it just keeps giving me E3 on the 12th fret harmonic, I can adjust it back to E2 but then the string is a mile out of tune and when I screw it back up to E2 the intonation is back at E3.

I've tried winding it right up and down the full travel but it wont even get close. I'm pretty clueless about this stuff, what am I doing wrong?

Lol! I'm a complete and utter moron! It's supposed to be E3 on the harmonic isn't it?

Idiot!

You should be comparing the 12th fret note with the 12th fret harmonic. And if it's a vintage style Tele bridge it'll never intonate properly as you have to average each pair.
