Hi All,

I have recently bought my first VW, and I went for the new face lifted Scirocco R-Line 2.0 TDI 184.

I bought this car for a few different reasons, but one of the main ones was its claimed mpg of 64.8 mpg (combined).
I know from experience that cars never achieve the official figures, but I thought it might get somewhere close.

In reality the current figures I am achieving are around 45-46 mpg at best!

The car has covered 2300 miles and I have been told the mpg will improve, but I am interested in knowing by how much??

Has anyone else experienced these figures from this same engine, and can you tell me if it does get any better?

I sold my pride and joy (BMW e92 330D m sport) to buy the Scirocco thinking it would be better on fuel, but in reality I could achieve the same mpg in my beemer, so I feel as though I am wasting a lot of money!

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Alex.

in a word no, you may get up to 48 but that will be it. I get 46-47 in a Passat cc with the less powerful 170bhp

Driving styles and terrain are the biggest obstacles to high mpg BUT if you drive with the trip set to instantaneous it quickly becomes clear just how difficult it is to maintain those high figures in traffic or even on a busy motorway. Cruise can be very helpful but beware it's input on gradients...
