Guys,
My wife wants to start selling some of her fairy related products and publications on line.
She's used Amazon for the books via a self publish route but Amazon take a massive chunk leaving her with little profit.

She's look at the like of moonfruit etc. to set up a website and shop, but quite frankly they're baffling!

Are there any simple webshop building sites etc. that we can use?
Doesn't have to be super swanky, just to allow showing the product and accepting payments etc.

Thanks.

I think Shopify is pretty well rated, I was going to have a play with it in the near future.

Shopify 100%

I went from a 30k magento system to this and now sell twice as much on-line, for £30 / month!

Thanks guys.
Are there any cheaper or free options that we could try?
Not sure we can justify £30/month at the moment as we don't know how business will go.

I'm with Create.net on their "Regular" account, gets me the website and an online shop for £9 a month. They have different levels that include a certain amount of storage, maximum number of products etc etc.

Probably the biggest problem with them is that I found they have a fairly limited range of templates, but I found one I liked eventually and then changed all the colours, fonts etc to how I wanted it to look, their templates are also responsive so they work on both PC and mobile.

Depending on how tech-savvy you or the OH are you can also try Wordpress, I believe there's a shop plugin you can get, and there's lots of good templates available online that should be easy to customise. I think it's a bit more involved than some other options though, which is why I gave it a miss.

Wordpress + WooCommerce is another option. It can be as involved as you want it to be, some of the themes have a lot of customisation built in, but with a bit of html & CSS knowledge, you can go a lot deeper.

Thanks for that - will get her to look at the 'lite' package.
Should be OK for what she wants - coasters, mugs, book & postcards etc.

How easy was it to use and set up?
I've tried using moonfruit to set up a site & shop for her but it's really confusing to use (have nearly launched the laptop a few times lol!).

Shopify is very good but if you're looking for something cheaper/free I'd recommend Big Cartel. They have a free plan for 5 or less products https://www.bigcartel.com/signup/

How the fudge are you only paying £30 a month for Shopify? Are you using their payment gateway too?

We're spending over £100 month because of their cut of sales.

We use Ecwid, which is free up to 10 products, and has worked well for us.

Sorry, just noticed this.

I found it pretty easy myself, like I said I don't know how to code, so I just picked a ready made template (they have a "Design" section when you're registered and logged in), and then editted the colours until I had something I liked the look of. Editting literally involved clicking different things.

They give you a 30 day free trial, you can't launch the site until you actually sign up and pay for an account, but you do have various preview options (i.e. how it looks on a PC, a mobile and a tablet) so you can test everything works before you make a decision.

Will have a play and see what I can come up with.
