I am "thinking" of selling the DB9 having had it for a few years now. Its an 04 with a good Aston service record (it missed 2 in 2011 and 12) but has been looked after by an Aston main dealer for the last 3 years we have had it. Its just had all the plugs and coils replaced along with a new battery. Its only done a tiny whisker over 40K miles. What advice would you give regarding the best way to sell it please. Would you put it through a main dealer, sell privately or ....what.

Dealer possibly if you want a new Aston, if not I'd say privately. If the car checked out as a private buyer I wouldn't be too concerned with a 10+ year car missing 2 services if all the others are there (and you've just had a big one done too)

Somewhere like McGurks on SoR or sell it to them if its good condition. Its a half way house between private sale and AM dealer. Maybe a punt at a private sale for a while first.

Thanks ds2000, no we wouldn't be after another at the moment, we have enough cars to play with, this would be a straight sale.

Could you expand on McGurks on SOR for me Jonsv8. Its in very good nick allowing for the fact its 10 years old, it has got 2 TINY bits of bubbling (door handle!) and the front valance could be blown over where its had a graze against something but generally a lovely car.

Nurts what are you doing over here hehe

OP what about Sale or Return with a reputable indie who could put a warranty on it for the new owner?

I'd ring them up if I was you, only the owner and the one sales guy as far as I can tell. I know the They'll want a fee and I know what it was on my car but that might vary depending on value. They'll sell it for you and take the hassle out of you dealing with people. The better the quality of car you have the easier it is to do, they have a reputation and from what I've seen they'll not take on tired stock. Look on their website ad you'll see.

Mr mybrainhurts,

Crickey, 80,916 posts.
With an average of 540 every month and 6,500 per year, is this perhaps your full time job?
I will let Mr avinalarf make the comments.

Give it a go privately first - make sure the car is spotless and take plenty of hi-res pictures. Regardless of how good it is, be realistic with your price - you will never get what you see on the forecourts. Be specific about any extras - there weren't many, but the one I had had the 'winter pack', so heated screen, mirrors and seats, and a different grille fitted.

I sold mine pretty much the same day it went on here on the classifieds to a local car broker who had been looking for a car specifically for a client. I didn't quite get 'private car' rate, but much better than trade or SoR. And the chap had cash ready and bank transferred it that afternoon, so given the readiness of, erm, readies, I went with that. Fielded several other serious calls, and a couple of the inevitable "I'll give you £50 for a quick sale" ones.

Good luck!

I sold mine privately a couple of years back, price it correctly (probs halfway-ish between trade and retail) and you'll sell easily enough.

McGurks offered me £33k from memory claiming they would put it up for £40k (although they had a very similar car up for £44k at the time...), it 'needed' similar paint to yours and I got £36k with 7 days privately which fitted in with my next plan.
