Yep, I was trying to hold it together but completely failed when the father welcomed his son back home.

A terrible story.

He was on a night out in Sheffield and was approached by some Sheffield United fans who were singing - he bantered with them about them losing a match that day and one of them punched him to the floor, smacking his head on the pavement.

End result - severe brain damage and fractured neck. Can't move, can't talk, can't eat.

Were the perpetrator(s) found/punished?

Devasting story and it makes me so angry that the chav who did this has pretty much got away with it.

If not a custodial sentence, then he should at the very minimum be paying for this financially for the rest of his life.

I can only hold faith that karma will previal and some other thug knocks this guy out too.

DIY SOS is a great show though! and despite Nick Knowles being as popular as Mike Brewer, he does good things and can actually be quite funny at times

Why aren't they suing that piece of s**t for every penny he has to pay for the care?

A suspended sentence? F**k me.

People have punch ups in every town every weekend, it's just a very very unfortunate fall that resulted the way it did. I bet the lad that did it is quite remorseful.

I do enjoy this programme, the amount of work that they get done is staggering. If I ever win the lottery most of my winnings will go on undertaking similar projects but over a slightly longer timescale.

Gee whizz ..... I've just watched that one and it was a weepy even by the usual DIY SOS standards. I think because of the anger element and because it was about older parents trying to look after a grown up son. Edited to add that I really wish them good luck.

That was extremely sad to watch. Just goes to show how you can easily go from being perfectly normal, to that in the blink of an eye. I know someone who fell off the very last rung of a ladder and hit his head on a piece of wood - ended up the same as this chap.
Awful.

Planning and building control applications will be made and approved before work commences. Planning won't have anything more to do with the project once permission has been granted and building control only really visit for works relating to the ground works, most of which is done before the main televised bit of the build.

I'm sure if building control do want to see anything specific the site team will make them well aware that this is a rapid build so that they will be called at pretty short notice to visit sharpish.

Certainly puts run-of-the-mill gripes into perspective. Sadly there are more of these rare diseases than any of us have heard of and then the poor bloke gets two of them! Very sobering and slightly too close to home than I'd like.

Agreed. When we were having our extension built I was a bit worried that Building Control never seemed to be on site. My builder kept telling me that he was dealing with them, and they would see what they wanted to see, and it could all be done at short notice.

I later spoke to the building inspector and he confirmed that my builder was keeping him up to date, and knew when to call him, and at what notice.

I have to be honest I struggled to watch that one without turning into a gibbering wreck.
To then find out both the little girls also have it must have been heart wrenching frown
