Just walked the dog to find disco lights at the end of the street, main road through the village closed, lots of plod, men in high-vis and a collision investigation unit van. Guessing this means some poor sod isn't going home tonight?

Grim. There are always parked cars on the high street there, no markings to prevent it and the people who live there have nowhere else to park. It appears that the kid (who was cycling with his dad and brother) swung out to pass the parked cars straight into an oncoming road sweeper. Not sure how I would feel if it had been my car parked there, to be honest.

At the risk of sounding very apathetic, my car being parked there would have no bearing on my feelings towards the incident.

They do cause an inconvenient obstruction and bring traffic into conflict - on the other hand, I suspect that if they weren't there, the council would have put in traffic calming to the same effect anyway.

Propper horrific , I cycle that road all the time, poor poor victim and family. Hearing how people were reassuring the boy before he passed away brought me to tears

My kids will be getting an extra cuddle later for sure.

Absolutely awful. If, as the police reports suggest, the driver was blameless, you've got to feel for him too.

I can't really see how it happened - I wonder if he came down the hill full pelt and simply couldn't stop. Don't know how fast a kid can pedal, but it's easy to be knocking on 30mph down the hill on my bike. Or maybe just not looking where he was going.
