Starting problem - column switch

I have had the symptom for a while of the car being 'dead' when hot, i.e. no click, nothing. I had put it down to the immobiliser relay on the way out and was on the point of tackling a possible bypass.
However, occasionally, there has been a delay of 1/2 a second or so between my turning the key and the starter actually turning over, and today, I had a problem with the engine only luke warm (60C on gauge). Research pointed led me to check the ignition module on the end of the key first, if only becaue it is a relatively easy check.
It looked unburnt but I opened it anyway:
A close up of the contactor arm will show that there was a big flake of paint on it:
I cleaned it up and any slight corrosion I found in there. Put it all together again (man those column shroud screws are fiddly). Started and stopped it hot and it was fine... so far. Hoping this may have solved it.
