I know you are all on holiday, I know it is the time to be jolly, but I would ask you all to take just a minute to reflect and think about the accident 60 years ago today. 82 people, young and old, died that day in the worst accident in racing history. Thank you

Had forgotten about this, thanks for the reminder so I can raise a glass to those who died and those who were injured.

Some heart breaking stuff in that article.

Always unsure as to why there isn't a proper memorial

I first saw a programme some years ago about Jaguar and Mercedes and was quite shocked when I learned about the tragic deaths of people who had just gone to watch some fast Cars.

Yes terrible remember that photo of the people stood on the bench before and after the crash that image stayed with me for a while for sure.

While at the grandstand by the start/finish on the Thursday during practice/qualifying I did spare a thought and didn't know it's 60 years since it happened.
I've been going since 2008 and it's always in my mind when ever I go to that particular spot, the grandstand and probably much of the track around there has been rebuilt and is very different but it's not hard to guess that you're not far from the exact spot, it's such a shame that there isn't a memorial to remember those that lost their lives or loved ones.

There is a plaque, but often covered during racing. If you read here you'll see why:-

I'm at the circuit today so I'll see if I can get a photo.

To the OP many thanks for this reminder it is a shame it is not more widely commemorated . I still have the shocking film with the rolling footage showing before and after . From this film it seams amazing that the children that died were not included in the total so we may never know the final figure.
I must admit that watching the senior TT on Friday night I was thinking that with the increase in speeds and crowds there how long before a major incident occurs?

We stopped by the plaque after the race, as we try to do each year, and this year there was a huge bouquet of roses there

I have this original newspaper hanging on the wall at home. Reminds of the drama that happened 60years ago on a daily basis.

We went and paid our respects after the race. It was peaceful in front of the plaque and not far away they were spraying champagne on the podium

Photos from the local paper, 12/6/1955. Avoid if of a sensitive nature please.

This in particular touched me to the core:-

Photos that would never be shown today, but somehow it makes you really think, just like watching the Isle of Man last night. Never more than a second from disaster.
