Oh God! Soooooooo excited I could wet myself...!
The old girl is finally getting a heart transplant ... slipped liners (didn't overheat so god knows why) back in January has put her off the road but she's now being rebuilt.
Of course nothing quite goes to plan but with every cloud comes a silver lining (hell, you have to look at it like that otherwise you'd kill yourself) ...
So with the cloud of a trashed 4.0 bottom end comes the silver lining of sourcing a 5.0 short block to replace it ... the original plan being to simply rebuild the 5.0 with the existing components.
Heads subsequently found to be somewhat shot too (hell, they've done 130,000 miles I guess) so from that cloud comes the silver lining of a deal done for a set of big valve heads in exchange for a modest quantity of folding beer tokens, old heads (of course) and the old gearbox that is coming out and being replaced at the same time (hell, saves me trying to sell a gearbox with a borked 2nd-3rd synchro).
New gearbox is going in (bought early 2014 and only picked up three weeks ago).
Have all the bits that I *THINK* I need to do the four pot Brembo conversion (apart from the wheel spacers) so that'll be on the shortlist for being done too.
Probably should source some new fuel injectors but that can wait a bit ... not sure where's good to get them from so need to do some hunting there.
God I can't wait to get her back on the road!

Fantastic news Phil.
Thought we had nearly lost you (and your TVR ownership) a while back.
You will need a different ECU chip, or a remap, too.
FWIW mine was changed to Bosch Red Top injectors, a 20AM AFM and a 72mm Plenum, all for better air flow/fuel flow.
Mentioning it now because all of that requires remapping, and you might as well not have the hassle and cost of a remap several times over.

Excellent news Phil!
I know ... I'm soooooo looking forward to getting rained on, getting baked in traffic, getting cold in winter and being a social leper again...

I have a spare set of standard fuel injectors on the shelf but there is a place near you that cleans and matches them.
I think I'm going to have to go for something larger as mine are running up in the low 90% duty cycle area already even on the 4.0 but thanks for the offer - probably going to go for a set of Vauxhall ones as I'm not looking to go too mad...

Cam?
Had a new Kent 214 back in November which is going to be put back in the new build as it's still in good nick (thankfully) ... oddly a couple of the followers are showing signs of scoring but the cams themselves are absolutely fine.QBee said:

Had a Canems / wideband lambda / AFR gauge fitted about four years ago now so we should be OK - a bit of fettling to the current map should see me OK and it runs on the wideband lambda up to 3,500 rpm so that should self correct its fueling while I run it in again.

Now ... do I keep the 400HC plenum and keep it at least a little stealthy or do I try to find a 5.0 plenum.

Then the cam will have to go Phil I am afraid its never acceptable to use new followers on a used cam and could cost you your new motors bearings or worse
i fact I have been in contact recently who had this done and its cost him the whole bottom end due to big time cam gear failure shortly after inc pistons bores crank bearings etc
trust me on this
I told him the same as I have just told you it must never be done, glad you will be up and running soon though

Unfortunately the manufacturers of the cam don't seem to agree ... when the first couple of followers failed back on October they would only supply replacement followers and not a new cam.
