Audi TTS / RS - what are they like?
Discussion
Just at that stage of looking through the classifieds for my next car and had been looking at the roadster versions of the TTS and RS.
I've had a couple of Boxsters before so maybe time for a change.
Doing a search for these cars just seems to bring up the new MK3 TTS.
Are there any owners here or people who have driven them who could share their views?
I've driven a 2.0 roadster before and didn't like the drive as it didn't feel sporty enough to me. So will these two feel different enough?

I posted this in another thread the other day...

We've had a MK2 TTRS Coupe for the past three years and 15k miles and as we look around at replacing it; here are a few plus/negatives that we've found, happy to expand on them if needs be:
+ Performance
+ Quattro Road Holding
+ Reliability
+ Cheap Running Costs
+ 'That' 5-pot Noise
+ Build Quality
+ Easy To Drive Slow & Fast
+ Dealership Service
- Handling/Involvement When 'On It'
- Limited Visibility
- Practicality
- Manual Gearbox Doesn't Enjoy Being Rushed

I've had a TTS roadster for three years. Longest I've ever kept a car and I occasionally think of changing it but can't find anything worth swapping for without spending loads.
Handling isn't as engaging as a Boxster but it is good. There is very little body roll and the control/damping is superb.
Only criticism is the steering lacks feel and is a little slow / unresponsive.
It is quick and punches well above its weight in 'real world' performance. It's very easy to drive very quickly.
I've not driven an RS (they were too expensive when I bought mine) but most reviews say the S is more fun to drive. RS doesn't have magnetic ride as standard either, which is a must for turning an otherwise knobbly ride into a comfortable one.

Ive not seen any reviews saying the slower car is better to drive. Any links?Handling isn't as engaging as a Boxster but it is good. There is very little body roll and the control/damping is superb.

Would have to say I disagree on the mag ride being a must have. Barely use mine, makes it quite uncomfortable on most roads. Only ever turn it on if I want the exhaust louder.
It's on all the time. In sport mode it is indeed uncomfortable on most roads. But in normal mode it's much better than something like an S Line on passive suspension. The only negatives for the RS over TTS are the extra weight of the 5 pot in the nose. TTS turns in more sharpely. I found my TTS to be a bit laggy, its quite a big turbo and can catch you out if your in the wrong gear or not 'on it'. TTS should be a little better on fuel too. However most reviews say the noise and step up in performance of the RS make it worthwhile.

There's an uprated Haldex controller that reacts quicker than the standard item, but also allows you to run a full time 50/50 torque split
Sounds more like it but don't the late Torsen RS4's etc have a standard 60/40 rear bias ? The TTRS would have made more sense to me if the Haldex was set up the same.
