I've got a 2.9 gen 2 Cayman been really happy with it had it 4 years time for a change do I buy a good spec 981 Cayman s or wait to a cheaper gts comes available I know the gts comes with a few bells & whistles but how will that compare to a really god spec 981 your thoughts cheers
The GTS is in demand so the second hand price is going to be higher than an S with a similar spec. Engine and some trim options apart you can spec an S to the same level as a GTS - but it wouldn't make sense costwise to do so, and I'd be surprized if you could find an S with GTS bodywork. Which you choose depends - to a significant extent - on whether you want most of those bells and whistles that come as standard with the GTS. The significant standard fitments on the GTS are the revised body, Sports Exhaust, Chronosport, 20" wheels and PASM. The extra power gives pub bragging rights, but you are unlikely to notice it much in practise. Personally I didn't want the bodywork changes (lowers the car and it's already quite marginal), nor 20" wheels, sports exhaust or chronosport - so an S (with PASM) was a sensible choice for me. However you may think differently and those other options are very popular so it may not make sense for you.

The gts being in demand will the 981 s be discounted by the dealers ?
I have no personal experience but there has been talk on here of anything up to 10% being possible if you take finance. Given that I have seen a couple of second-hand GTS with low - but not nominal - mileage being advertised for full list, I think the chances of getting anything off a new GTS would be slim. The GTS is truly epic - if you can afford it buy one over the 981 S.
As mentioned above its a personal thing but the overall package of the GTS is very refined and based on its current desirablity means its residuals alone make it more appealing than the S. Will have to see how they hold up as the GT4 enters the 2nd market.
I had a Gen 1 S and the gulf in 'feel' between the 981 is significant, overall the gen 1 is much more raw from the noise to the steering feel. I can only assume given the Gen2 isn't that far removed its comparable. However don't thing the noise from the GTS is marginalised; (dependant on your personality) its truly epic and child like, will keep you smiling tunnel after tunnel. The steering is deadly on point, but does lack some feel, but after a few hundred miles you forget the analog.
The GTS performance is so much more accesiable at higher speeds, and with PDK for me the shifts are so lightening it transforms the car. Personally the manual has too long gearing and if your coming from a gen 2 you will really notice this. PDK mitigates this a lot imo and hence opted for it. But it you go that way you must get paddles not those silly buttons. If you get a 981 regardless of model get the x73 suspension - looks and ride are worth it alone.
Either way buy a 981 now before the silly pot4 arrives and the prices for the 2nd na start holding beyond what they normally would drop too after a couple of years onwership
