C

Gents I've replaced the cool leads etc. still running on any number of cylinders except 8 as soon as it reached 80 plus degrees. Great from cold. I've remove the temp sensor and tested it with hot water. Does anyone know what readings I should be getting?

Cheers Karl.

Yeah there were some numbers posted up somewhere. Around 200 ohms seems OK hot.

While we are looking, try letting it cool down slowly and check that the resistance varies smoothly, I have had one which went open circuit at 40-50C and was OK hot or cold, so that caused a lot of intermittant rough running I can tell you.

Thanks Adam

The sensor readings where all over the place getting warm. Do I'll change it just incase. If I can find one. Nothing on eBay but I think ML have them.

Standard Landrover part, about 12 quid last time I bought one.

As Wedge1e say's...The part number on my old one was FAE 33370...

Without sounding like a stuck rec.....rec.....rec.....rec.....rec.....Record...Might be worth checking the wires in the connector..This is what was causing mine to fail and the ECU to over fuel...

Done that Zig. First thing I checked when you told me about it. All squeaky clean inside.

Cheers Karl.

Sorted!

She's running like a dream again. New plugs, leads, coil etc made no difference.

Changed the engine coolant sensor and job done.

Cheers Guy's for all the help on both posts.

If anyone needs a sensor have a look at John Craddock Landrover. £5.52 inc VAT!!!

Looks a lot cheaper than the original but seems to work. Nasty plastic 20mm nut rather than a proper bit of brass.

Karl.

Yeah I don't like those plastic ones but at that price who cares - get two or three and keep some spares.

You might find the same symptoms come back - it is not unknown for these modern senders to fail after not much time, so don't get flummoxed, it may well be the same thing.

Variable resistor selected by a toggle switch (mounted on the auxiliary panel for toggle switches) would permit a temporary fix for coolant temp sensor issues.

slightly off topic but relevant......the plug which attaches to the temp sensor is cracked.........any ideas on the part number to get a replacement

sorry Adam only just spotted this......mine arrived this morning.

Only took a few mins to replace, the old one was so brittle it literally fell apart

Also anyone want to see what the inside of a sender looks like?.....I had a new Lucas sender on the shelf so decided to fit it.....but would not tighten and therefore would not undo.......ahhhh

Heavy handed but snapped the plastic bit off the top so I could piler the brass bit out.....a close shave (the old brass one put back in for now)

be carful with the plastic nut ones
