Broken fuel pump - beware!
Discussion
Well the local garage changed all the fuel hoses on the Wedge the other day. All seemed well until yesterday morning when I went in the garage and noticed the stink of petrol. Did some investigating and the cause is a cracked fuel pump. The stupid f
ker who fitted the new hoses has over tightened the hose clip and cracked the fuel body. Grrrrrr.
New pump ordered from Richard Thorpe at £120 but seriously not impressed. Richard said that this is a common problem if the hose is over tightened so beware. I will be having not so polite words with the garage.

To be fair, the pump could have had some internal corrosion due to water in fuel.
It also does look as if it's been there a very long time, but still not happy. Still, new pump, new hoses, new regulator and newly refurbished injectors, so at least I know the fuel system is in good fettle.KKson said:

Money well spent then
I just renewed all my fuel hoses and brake lines (saved the pump though
)... I'll probably be at that great gig in the sky before anyone else needs to change them.On a positive, better to have noticed it now in the garage, rather than in the car park at The Fest!.
Do you think the garage will accept blame and cover some of the cost?
Might be worth sticking a new filter on whilst you're under there, as they are quite cheap.
Sorry I couldn't make it today re FPR.

This is the very reason I didn't let the local garage change my UJ's. I asked them how they would go about doing the job and didn't like what I heard. They would have probably done the job but messed up something else. I took it to Bespoke Performance because they are familiar with these cars and know what they are doing. From then on I made myself a promise. No more local garages for my Wedge. They don't have the experience or the passion for these cars. They can only service Mondeos providing nothing is siezed.

Right new fuel pump fitted and all is well. To be fair to my local garage the old pump was totally sh
ed, full of corrosion and the outlet connection had been previously cracked and bogged over with metal putty so I'm surprised it lasted so long.
Nice evening for a drive out I think......
