I'm just trying out a mail/parcel forwarding service called shipito.com. It was recommended to me by someone who's used it loads without any problems.

While many companies will post to the UK, it's very frustrating when you find that perfect eBay purchase only to find they won't ship internationally. Having just found the perfect intake manifold for my big block chevy for just $400, all I did was register with shipito ($5.00 into your account) to receive my new US mailing address.

The parcel has now arrived with shipito.com and, as part of the notification email, they've even sent a picture of it. I've now paid the postage, requesting (for $2.00) that they open the parcel and take a picture of it for insurance purposes. All very slick.

Interestingly, you get to fill out the customs declaration yourself. I can't imagine anyone abusing that facility whistle

I'll let you know if it arrives safely...

Sounds like some trust involved, but let us know how it goes smile

I usually end up ordering bits from Summit through AAS when possible, or from rockauto directly...there are some bits that are a bugger to get though frown

I wonder how it would work for drag tyres.

UK prices are mental, and postage from the US is also mental

I paid £86 to post a 25lb tunnel ram BBC intake manifold. there was a choice of couriers and delivery time options. Can't see anyone doing many favours though.

So do you organise the courier yourself or is a choice like your say of prearrange carriers?
I just paid £85 for a set of coilovers from the US 50lbs weight, although not a forwarding company (had to be direct pickup)

Im lucky enough to have a friend with an office in the states that i can send bits too!!

I still dont get import tax though, I paid nothing on the coilovers i just imported but did have to pay on some lights from Aus???

OHi Phil,

There was a choice or couriers or I could arrange to pick up the parcel myself. They opened the package and took photos, which was good value at two Dollars. At the end of the day a forwarding service will be dearer that straight postage. It serves a purpose, so my choices are limited. And I can't fault the service so far.

As for duty, I could have declared it a gift or simply understated the value if I was of a mind. Trouble is, I've had a lot of stuff delivered from the States and such mis-declarations would eventually catch up with me.

Anyway the package is on its way now. One more piece of my 11.6-litreV8 lick

And to finish the story, the goods landed, duties were paid and the parcel arrived safe and sound.

Great service from my perspective biggrin

I used them the other day, very happy as most things that come via USPS are crazy money for shipping then you have to pay Royal stes an £8 handling fee too
