Hi all,

I picked up my new toy yesterday and I need to know how I can use spotify from my phone through the audio system which is a dvd sat nav system.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if I can select spotify tunes through the display on the car and dashboard?

Thanks

...but Spotify will remain controlled on your phone rather than the in-car controls.

Bluetooth Audi doesn't do full blown integration in the way that AMI does and AMI won't directly talk to Spotify.

Thanks all, does my 2010 s4 have mmi or ami?

What functionality can I get with pluging a device in to the socket?

Is there an easy way to find out what my car has and hasnt got specwise?

Also there anyway I can see the audi history and advisories online?

Thanks

MMI = Multi Media Interface aka 'sat nav' aka 'tech pack low/high' depending on whether you have a DVD nav with x6 CD changer in the dash or x2 SD card slots in the dash. You could argue that functionally even non-nav cars are MMI as they have a screen and buttons to scroll through vehicle functionality.

AMI = Audi Music Interface which is basically a cable in the glovebox for plugging in a USB device or Apple - those are the usual 2 cables supplied with new cars.

If you have either form of tech pack they come with AMI

You can decode spec using the 3 character codes in the front of the service book, although it's not comprehensive. You can usually work it out from pics of the interior as well leaving the service book codes to work out the stuff you can't see! Post a pic of the codes and someone will be able to tell you what they are. I have software at home that decodes them.

Nowhere to check service history online - you can ring Audi UK customer service, who on a good day will tell you, and on a bad day will give you a premium rate phone number to call to find out. They won't tell you of any warranty issues with the car, but the dealer who has serviced the car might have some record. They may, or may not, tell you. Either will tell you if there's something outstanding.

Look here for MMI versions.

http://www.fiscon-mobile.eu/products/audi_mmi.php

The best way I've found to see the spec of your car is to register it with "my.audi.com". However, you need to be a bit tricky here: The UK site doesn't show anything useful, but if you subsequently log in on the German site (using same username/password) https://my.audi.de/ you'll see all the details. In German. Use Google translate if that's a problem...

Well it appears that I have this:

Audi A4 (8K), A5 and Q5 - MMI Navigation 3G
Info The vehicle contains a color center screen. The MMI wheel with integrated joystick is located beside the gear knob. The navigation system is located in the dash inside the MMI headunit and contains radio, CD-changer, navigation. The MMI 3G was produced from modelyear 2009 to 2011 and was replaced in 2012 by MMI 3G Plus.
Technology Fiber Ring
Product MMI 3G Handsfree

I don't appear to have a multi changer which would be handy so I could use both dvd based nav and play CDs at the same time. Is a CD multi changer easy to add and where would it go?

What does music on sd cards sound like and can track lists be viewed and changed using the steering wheel controls?

Thanks

Mat

If you have that then you have HDD navigation - so no DVD. (If you have DVD nav, the DVD drive is in the boot)

MMI 3G has the diddly joystick on top of the MMI knob.

No idea about CD changer retrofit: The changer would be in the dash above aircon controls. It doesn't have a nav DVD in it, but you *can* put the online owners manual CD in it.

SD/USB music sounds fine. Album/Tracks names all appear, and its' controllable from steering wheel etc.

From your description I think you're getting confused by the Fiscon link

If you don't have a 6 disc CD changer in the dash, or a DVD drive behind the left side boot compartment, then you don't have DVD navigation. Confusingly there is a DVD slot in the dash, but it is not used for navigation. If yours is as pictured above, with a tiny joystick on top of the MMI clickwheel, which allows you to navigate around the map view then it is indeed HDD nav. The absolute giveaways are the x2 SD card slots instead of the x6 CD changer in the dash, the joystick, the fact that if you go straight to nav after switching the ignition on it will say 'initialising navigation' and that if you browse your Media source options one will be 'jukebox' which is a partition on the nav HDD for music files.

As to media choices - 32GB SD cards work fine. My music is in itunes format mainly, but for the car I import music using Media Player at the highest bitrate it supports (320 springs to mind) and with B&O it gives a worthwhile improvement over more compressed formats.

There is much confusion over MMI versions - with the S4 it's easier to talk in terms of tech pack low or high, which is easy enough to figure out from the spec codes. For non S models there's a 3rd version where nav can run off a DVD in the dash or be transferred to a small SD card in one of the SD card slots.....

Hi,

Mine is def dvd nav as when you don't have the nav disc in the nav won't work. It has a flip down compartment with two sd card slots to.

I will take a pic later and post it on here.

Thanks

If yours is a facelift it's possible you have the middling setup I mentioned above, where you can copy the nav files across to an 8GB SD card if you wanted to free up the DVD slot. Never seen it in an S4 tbh but Dr G may chip in?

It's known as MMI 3G Basic

Do what I said above: Register on my.audi.com, add the vehicle by its VIN code, and THEN SWITCH TO THE GERMAN LANGUAGE version.

Here's some of what I see of your car.

So you have MMI Basic Plus.

Hmm I tried to play a cd in the head unit this morning but it seems it only takes dvds!

I can't see a cd changer anywhere and I've looked in the glove box and boot.

Any ideas what my options are for cds going forward?

Thanks

I have the same set-up in my A5.

Despite what the manual might say, you need a 16GB SD card to do this. Stick the blank card in the slot, and follow the instructions in the manual to copy the nav disc to the SD card. It's much faster (and quieter) initialising from SD card. Beware that you can't use (I think) SDXC format, but SDHC is ok. It takes about 20 mins to copy over to SD card, but is more reliable to do it in the car than on a laptop.

Thanks Tigger I copied nav files on to an sd card so I can use nav and cds at the same time.

It appears that I have the mmi 3g basic. I now need to get a load of music on to another sd for the second sd card reader.

Thanks

From the OP's picture - that *is* certainly DVD nav - so you're right, there's much confusion wink

I'm confused as to why the OP can't play CD's in the optical drive though. Mine certainly plays CD's fine - although I never do, it's always stuff on the SD card, or mobile (30pin connector in the glovebox).

Wish it did A2DP - but it's no big deal. The OP has many hours of fun organising music onto an SD card now unless your music collection is already in order?!
