Following a few nudges I am looking at de-cating the S.

Will probably get the pipes fitted locally if all that is needed is a large mallet in the way of specialised equipment.

Where can I get bthe pipes I need. At this stage I dont plan to change my manifolds or the rest of the system.

ACT or Peninsular…

Seen them for £50 per pipe and £80 per pipe...

Mine came from ACT but were fitted by David Batty. In fact my whole exhaust system came from ACT, and that sounded

Ah, I thought you meant down pipes, anyhow I can't imagine that it would be too difficult to fit. Most exhaust systems are pretty easy to sort out.

Don't know about the S, but I can highly recommend ACTs exhausts and decat kit otherwise

Decat, did I hear the word decat?? How did the cats find themselves onto your 91 anyway?

S3c had them as an option.. was also fitted with an LSD to justify the extra price tag...

One insurer informed me that the 'C' stood for convertible, and wouldn't be corrected ...

Don't think that the CATs were an option on the S3c. Removing them might have been though. Didn't the S3c also have extra lights at the front?

To clarify… there was the S3 or the S3c… the latter came with a £1500 increase in price for the cats, more torque (supposedly) and an LSD….

Hi am new to this TVR lark, but have been reading since Nov. I have just removed the cats from my S3C but it just appears to make more noise. A lot of soot fell out of one cat. The job took about 2 hours.

I got a new S/S exhaust from the manifolds back for my S3c which included de-cat pipes. The de-cat pipes set me back an extra £100 and was well worth getting done. Austec Racing fitted the system and and the car is also going back to them for a re-map sometime soon.

Where did you source the pipes to replace the cats?

Was it a straightforward 2 hour job? as in a few bolts undone....... cats out........ a few bolts done up and the sensors replugged in?

Got the pipes from ebay for £51.00, there are 12 13mm/1/2" nuts and bolts in all. The cats will come passed the exhaust on the nearside but it is tight. I put in new 13mm (8mm threads) the bolts need to be 45mm long, pasted up etc.

I up end one cat and got covered in soot (nice!) the other cat is not sooted up.

I have only had it out once since I did it, there is not much if any improvement in anything but noise!

I intend to redex the bores this weekend since I now have no cats.

My car is a 1991 with 34,000 miles on and feels quite slow!!!

When I bought my S in the summer the advert said it came with de-cat pipes.
But I was a little surprised when he handed them over to me!!!
He said he had tried to fit them but they were to short.
Thought I would try them anyway.
They both fitted but the right hand side hit the chassis cross member and vibrated so they came off again.
Im going to have some slightly longer ones made up (well maybe just the right hand side) at an exhaust place near me, Hayward & Scot I think the name is.
There might be a discount if i order more than one set
Otherwise once they has finished with my current pipes then they will be open to anyone who wants to try them on their S.

I would be interested in knowing how much they want for a set Dave if you are getting it priced up.

Podie at the November meet at Foresters I got chatting to a guy who had come down for a look who used to have an S a very similar colour to me but sold it a couple of years ago. Don't know who it was do you? just that he mentioned he still hjad a set of pipes in his garage... brand new ones as well.
