991 GT3 or Turbo S ?
Discussion
Five years ago folk would stare at you strangely if you asked the same question but right now, is it so daft ?
Let's be honest, the GT3 is not the hardcore analogue purist experience it once was and meanwhile the turbo has become more interesting and interactive to drive in 991 guise and with a better soundtrack to boot. The yin and the yang seemed to have moved a whole lot closer together.
Countering the GT3's extra precision and sense of reward, the turbo gives you a more addictive punch with instantaneous thrust, a better looking car (through some eyes at least), daily cruise/CBA mode, long distance/comfort capability, and here's the trump card ... 2 rear seats which for a chap like me with 2 young kids, means I will use the thing maybe 50% more again over a GT3. Going by Youtube, the turbo is actually a pretty decent prospect for the occasional bit of track work as well if that takes your fancy.
So what would you choose (ignoring that tiresome sideshow about respective residuals please !). A lightly used Turbo S or a LHD 991 GT3 for similar money. One you'd use occassionally, the other you'd practically live in and could use for everything from Sainsburys to the Susten Pass.

Easy:Let's be honest, the GT3 is not the hardcore analogue purist experience it once was and meanwhile the turbo has become more interesting and interactive to drive in 991 guise and with a better soundtrack to boot. The yin and the yang seemed to have moved a whole lot closer together.

Ocassional use = GT3, no question
Daily use = Turbo S, no question
It is an interesting question. I said way back at the launch of the 991 GT3 that there was a real danger of Porsche making the GT3 irrelevant. As soon as the cars themselves start to overlap AND people realise, the GT3 makes very little sense.
For the moment marketing have managed to keep the second part from happening; but the line between the two cars themselves is at present, quite blurry.
