I've got to say the Apple Watch has no interest for me at all. Nonetheless, if you haven't seen it Matthew Inman has done a good review (of sorts) on The Oatmeal website here: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/apple_watch

Whilst it's his typical exaggerated comedy, he makes some good points along the way.

Like you said "this is getting silly" there are a lot of fools out there, someone at Apple has thought what is the most stupid price we can stick on this piece of rubbish and let's see if the idiots still buy it.

I Bet they do,

And worse are they going to be like other Apple products, when they want to make some more money they just make it obsolete.

They're worse than drug dealers

Don't really understand why they would sell separately, CEX are a bit 'special' though.

The link bracelet is being sold for more than what apple sell it for, but the head is not a bad deal if you don't mind just buying the sport band for it.

Selling separately as they are from different watches, the aluminium case is from the a Watch Sport, the stainless steel bracelet is from the Watch

But still both carrying a premium over new when you can order from Apple Store with delivery within a week?

Apple are making a heady profit from the official straps according to Reuters:

So the band costs $2.05 to make and they sell it for $49, people really are that stupid

Assuming that is sensationalist reporting and is the prime cost, their development and marketing costs aren't going to be a hugely significant on something like that.

Presumably to be sold as mono-aural phones, left and right! biggrin

And what's the markup on replacement TAG/Omega/Rolex straps?

Your cars probably cost a fraction of what you paid to build too, I don't see your point?

The straps for Omega I know for example are a joke, I think the leather strap from them is in the hundreds, and the bracelet almost £500, in fact, that was 5 years ago when I enquired about getting one, so probably more now. Nothing offers 'value' in the watch world above and beyond a £5 casio really, so I don't think people are stupid for buying an apple watch.

They're different sizes which is why they can't be sold together. Can't tell you why they'd have that situation though

From the last time I called a Rolex steel strap is in the £600 region. This was for a vintage watch though so not sure how much for a more current model.

It's £379 on Apple's site, but I guess someone might pay over the odds for 'have it now'-ability...

I think a Rolex 9135 stainless strap for the older Sub's goes for between 350 and 850 if nos.

EFA. But I agree. I bet Rolexes don't cost £3500 to make and they just put a modest £300 markup on them.

Reality is businesses don't need to cover just the cost of the manufacture - there are the other costs eg research, design, staff costs, building costs.

Rolexes do actually cost a lot to make, which is kind of the point of them. You're buying quality. With the Apple Watch you are buying a mass-produced trinket and the perception of envious glances which don't actually happen.

Define "a lot". I bet it isn't £3500. Also, isn't the Apple Watch (why isn't it called the iWatch?) actually quite good? (I ask this as someone who doesn't own or want any Apple products.)
