My canon 400D has developed a fault where auto exposure is always a couple of stops underexposed unless I +2. I gather it is a common problem, but that it needs returning to Canon to get it fixed.

As I have a couple of Canon lenses, I'm thinking of getting a 50D body only, which appear to be 250 - 275 used.

I'd rather buy from a known dealer and have 6 month warranty - can anyone recommend a place to buy please?

Has anyone heard of the low exposure problem and is there a better/ less expensive fix than a return to Canon - I don't really want to invest in an old camera.

Is the 59D a reasonable next step within that sort of budget (sub £300)

Watching with interest, as some of my pics come out a little on the dark side from my 400d.

Wondering what a sensibly priced next step would be?

I went from a 400D to 60D, huge difference. Compared to the 50D the 60D is slightly smaller and plastic not magnesium alloy (but still well built) but the sensor is a fair bit newer, if you get a good secondhand bargain it should just fit in your budget.

50D a good bet - I've a 40D and really like it.

Alternatively a 5D Mk1 might be worth a punt - no sensor self-clean, slower fps than the 50D and weaker off-centre focusing, but full-frame goodness! biggrin
