Looking for a new M4. I really like the HK audio in my i3 and M135i.

A lot of the pre-reg cars seem to have BMW Advanced Audio. Has anyone compared this to the Harman Kardon?

Thanks!

If its anything like the professional audio in my X5, then it will be woeful.

Have spec'd HK in new M5.

I know it's old, but I foolishly accepted normal BMW system in my 320 a few years back in Cyprus. I never made the same mistake again. HK all the way in everything since.

I had the std system in my E92 m3 and it was terrible.

A lot seem to have BMW advanced. No idea why they didn't spec HK for the extra £200.

The HK is pretty poor as well imo. Had it on both M3 and M5. Can you not get the B&O in an M4 like the M5? That sounds superb.

No, HK is the top option.

I rate the HK in the M5. Clearly it's got limitations, but well worth the price over the standard tunes & epic when you consider it's a further near £5k to get B&O. I'm possibly tight but i'd spend that £6k on a runaround to sit alongside my M5 rather than an enhancement to the Audio within it. Bear in mind that uplifting the quality of the source material will give as good an uplift so playing 128kbs tracks through any music system won't be great.

It's only a 3k upgrade on an M6 now so well worth it imo. To my ears the HK was woolly, lacking clarity and had boomy bass. I spend 6k on half an amp music

Yes true enough - all my music is ripped as lossless wink

That's not as bad then. Has their been a B&O price change across the range or is the system different in the M6 from the M5?

Although B&O can be spec'd across the Audi range, it only costs around £1k in most of the range, but the daddy system is in the A8 at a staggering £6.5k. We had it in the wife's Q5 & it was a good sound, although probably no better than the HK in my M5, but was a little more bass. However the acoustics in the S8's B&O i test drove was just insane & a world apart from the Q5.

I like music in the car, but could never justify spending more in my car for tunes than i would in the house given a cars acoustics are pants by comparison. Saying that though i'm no Audiophile as only have Sonos in the house due to my lazy nature.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm looking at a 135i coupe this weekend advertised with "HiFi System Professional DSP". I have an E90 325i at the minute and the system is woeful. Will this be just as bad?

I've not heard the A8 system but I can imagine its very good. Best factory fit I've heard is the Burmester in the Panamera, followed by the B&W in the XJR. BMW B&O is a close third. I think the reason the B&O is now cheaper in the M6 is that HK is now the base spec, so less of a price differential to 'upgrade'.

If you're lucky that might be the 'individual' audio option - which is excellent. Or perhaps the 'Logic 7' which uses DSP.

Professional is the Logic 7. Individual is better again, and can be identified by the silver surrounds. Sorry for the OT.
