With the rise in current car prices, it has got me thinking, would people swap their older valuable Porsche for a same value newer car with no money changing hands either way. Also not thinking about future rises or investment potential.

So would you swap say

A 2007 997.1 GT3 for a brand new specced up GT4.
A 1990 964 RS for a 2011 997.2 RS.
A 1993 993 Turbo for a 2014 991 Turbo S
A 1973 Carrera RS for a 2005 Carrera GT

With good 997.2 GT3's around 100k once the 991 reaches parity with them, would anyone with a 997.2 do a straight swap for a 991 GT3???

Coming in the future maybe at the same price

2007 997 GT3 for a 2015 991 GTS
2004 996 GT2 for a 2014 991 GT3
968 Clubsport for a Cayman R

I'm sure there are many more permutations on the theme, the interesting bit for me is the same value part as it means it is all about the car and not potential profit margins.

What are other people thoughts?

I have been wondering about the same thing - I am in a similar sort of predicament - if not the same money, you don't really need to put in much more to go from a classic to a "modern-day" supercar.....

I guess it is comes down to preference....as the driving experience is quite different......

Also, it is quite difficult to overcome the emotional sentiment you get when you're in your classic - the older cars just have so much more character....but that might just be me

I kind of did do that, although I stepped out of the Porsche brand. I hadn't really felt that attached to my 996 turbo for the last year or two - the realisation that the increase in prices meant I could pretty much swap it for an Aston Martin Vantage seemed too tempting to resist.

I've got a 2007 GT3 so for me here are some thoughts and possibilities

Now

Swap in to a

2011 997 Turbo S. - I've not driven a 997 PDK or 997 Turbo, does look a great car though so maybe.

2013 991 C2S PDK- I've driven this and it was very good, maybe a little dull in comparison to the 997 so no.

2015 Cayman GT4 ( if at around list) looks good but not for me as a swap.

Possibilities in the future

2015 C2 GTS - I think this might tempt me out of the GT3, love the look, it's got 430hp and 4 seats so would get a lot more use.

991 Turbo S- this is likely a good few years away, but theoretically could be at the same price at some point, I think this would be very tempting as I think the 991 Turbo S is a serious bit of kit.

Any one else got thoughts?

Remember this is not a debate about money, PDK or manual, investment potential, depreciation or colour of deviated stitching, but about straight swap of cars based on dynamic ability and preference of car.

I reckon I would be happy to swap my 2007 GT3 for a 993 RS if anyone is willing? hehe

On a serious note, I think one day in the future I will swap mine (plus cash) for a 991 GT3 when (if) the 991 GT3 ever drops to near list price (and the 2007 GT3 does not drop considerably in value)

You'll be a while waiting for a 997.1 GT3|991 Turbo S swap - but I agree, one certainly worth making if it came to be!!
