Up the road from me there has been a housing development started, and a new 30 limit put in, it's a four lane road leaving town, used to be a couple of smallholdings and a farm. Noticed them yesterday, parked in the farm roadend, in front of the sign stating private property, no parking.
I know the guy who owns the farm, haven't seen him recently to ask but I doubt that they had permission from him, is it okay for them to do this?

No, still have a clean licence, just wondering before the usual wkers start.

If they have permission from the land owner then why not? Also with a new development there is a chance the land will become public highway in the future or there might have been an agreement as part of the planning permission.

The police will do a “risk assessment” on the location for the van so I’m sure it would be legit.

If the public have access, it will be classed as a pubic highway and normal RTA applies.

So they can set up in your private driveway even though signs prohibit it?

They are private signs and have no legal standing, from a public highway point of view. They won't be in the TSRGD!

What do the signs prohibit? The police most likely have the permission of the land owner. What is usually the case is the land owner has asked for them to be there.

I get it all the time, residents saying they are thankful we are there targeting speeders, the offer us drinks and say I can park on their driveway etc if I need to.

As long as the police are targeting drivers on the public highway, it's irrelevant where they are positioned.

Or if reading what I wrote, more than likely not..........

The police need permission from the land owner.

This happened on the road my Dad used to live on. The resident who's drive the police were regularly using denied that they had given permission - turned out they weren't being honest. 6 months later the same resident had managed to get hold of a couple of high vis jackets and their own speed gun.

A few years ago the local force kept parking up at the entrance to the drive for an old pile; despite the landowner asking them not to.

The spaces either side of the actual road now have several strategically placed large boulders spaced in a way that prevents access....

It's trespass, simple as that. Not a crime but a civil offence.
