steering column movement

Hi all. Has anyone changed the bearings on the steering column? I have play on the wheel but th column seems to be the culprit. There's no movement on the column surround down the shaft just at the wheel end.im thinking it's the bearing but if there's anything else it could be. Are the bearings hard to change? Thanks

If you are saying that the steering wheel has rotational movement and the road wheels aren't moving, you probably have either play in your steering rack or the steering universal joints in the wheel arch have play in them.

Just a thought.

The adjustable knuckle at the steering wheel end of the column can loosen up and give play, there are a couple of bolts that might be tightened but vague recollection from day's past I seem to recall not all are accessible, so might need a new joint .

Thanks. I should have said it is up down and side to side movement sorry. I'll strip it down tomorrow and have a closer look thanks again
