Theft from garage
Discussion
They will need to check their policy wording - sometimes insurers get difficult about Garage contents (I think for mine, I pay a little extra to ensure all items in there are covered).
If the ownership of the items is relevant, again policy wording will be key.
Also consider the excess to the homeowner, and their loss of no claims on their policy - i.e. it's not their fault someone broke into their garage!

All depends where the garage is and the exact wording on the policy.
Most have very low limits if the garage is a separate building, last time I was looking most were something like £1-£2.5k and with a high excess.
If it's an attached garage it may be considered just another room in the house and so the same rules/limits/excesses would apply.

We're the tools stored in a domestic or industrial garage?
Reason I ask is if it were industrial the insurance would have an excess probably a fair bit higher than the tool value.
If it were a domestic garage, firstly they might not have contents insurance and if they did it's the tradesmans loss and he would need to insure against it, not the house.
That's how I'd look at it.

The garage is attached, The tradesman expected the replies that its highly unlikely the homeowners insurance would cover it. Just wanted to double check.
Thanks for the replies, I guess the builders skip would've had people sniffing about, so maybe tried the garage to see if anything in there. It was locked, just a bar pushed into top of door, to release catch.
Tradesman insurance against loss of tools can be quite high, and in case his insurance only covered tools in his van, between 8am & 6pm.

I'd expect the tradesman to have insurance for his tools, wherever they're left!
