Horrible.

Keys should be kept where even you find it difficult to find them!

Then they come wandering around your house looking for them, personally someone breaks in looking for my car keys when I'm in bed, I prefer they take them rather than coming into the bedroom and waking me and the missus demanding them. I'm not sure I could just hand the keys over to my p&j's, that could end badly

Correct, there are people on PH that have been woken in the night by armed gangs demanding the car keys as they couldnt find the keys downstairs.

Christ it difficult to know what to do, we've had our car keys in the key table draw next to the front door for the last 20 years, then last week the Mrs says we should hide the AM ones. They're in the tea caddy if any ones interested. biggrin

OP, Hope you get your car back ok.

My Keys are well hidden, only I know where they are.

I think if anyone broke into my house and attempted to wake me up to 'ask' me where they were, it would be the last thing they ever did in this world! Being an ex Grenadier Guard and retired police officer and knowing how to handle myself, it would be a really, really big mistake I can tell you! rage then smash then punch then I would be calling a few ex colleagues cop then if they made it that far they would be in front of a judge

I was so very sorry to read what has happened.
The shock of this must be awful.

One wonders with these break-in vehicle thefts, whether the criminals just randomly spot vehicles on driveways, or use the internet or reg. marks to obtain a home address.
My technique of a very cheap DD left on the driveway, might avoid the first, but not the second.

If my Aston was stolen, I don't think I'd want it back. frown I'd want another one.

I give the keys to Karen every night for safekeeping. If they want the car they will have to take her too.

That'll learn them smile

It all well and good saying 'of course you would dear', but I'm sure you'll never break into my house and find out haha ;-)

Thanks all. No news of either car, which is bad news I suspect. Was loving my V8V so absolutely gutted.

Might step up to a 4.7.

True, I dont get involved in those sort of jobs.

Theres plenty of crack addicts with little to lose and twitchy trigger fingers that are happy to do that sort of work for a bag of rocks.

Ask any of your police buddies, they'll confirm.

gee this one is an eye opener for me! i leave keys in my car all the time when we are at home, I just remove the ECU or the key fob thing if its a german car and leave it in the center console? i did nt think there is any market for high end stolen cars, down here in SA Toyota and VW polos get stolen all the time for parts and so on not sure a vantage will be of any use?

I hope you get compensated by your insurance cos these F*&^&^cers would have certainly damaged your clutch and other consumables
