Hi all - I've just made a very short journey and the cooling fan for the car came on, it stayed on for a couple of minutes after I'd switched the engine off...any ideas what the issue could be?

The water level is fine and the AC wasn't on.

Many thanks.

What car? My Leon petrol mk2 does this , first time it did it after 15 mins stop start driving , i got out and felt a wall of heat from the front wheel arch and the fan was on for a few minutes, was driving down to Cornwall the next day as well!

Phones my mum who owned the car before me and she said it did it sometimes , hoses radiator and coolant seemed fine , so presume it was hat sitting in traffic triggering it . Been fine since and fan comes on occasionally .

Sorry - I omitted the car details.....

It's a 2009 A4 2.0 TFSI. It's only just started happening so something strange is going on?!

Had similar symptoms on my 2.0TFSI Q5. Problem was a dodgy thermostat, my water temperature guage was all over the place, sometimes reading went up to normal temp and then fell back again to zero! The thermostat wasn't opening (and randomly closing) the full cooling system. The result being that the smaller closed loop section of the collant system was getting too hot and triggering the fan (must be another sensor on this section). Fan was coming on a lot and also after parking up.

Of course there are many issues that can cause this symptom
