I currently have a 62 plate 12c and looking at possibly replacing it. If I was to stay with Mclaren the obvious progression is to buy a 650s. Before I look to test drive one can any previous 12c owners who have made the move to the 650s provide their insight/views - worth the additional financial outlay? Iris work? Vehicle lifter give adequate clearance over mild speed bumps? Is the performance increase noticeable? Thoughts on 650s values going forward? Anythig that is a must on the option list if I go new, or spec I should hold out for if I go used? I also welcome the views of current 12c owners who can advise why I should keep the 12c :-)

Many Thanks in advance.

Six months post swap and I have no regrets. The 12C is amazing, the 650S is something else!

The performance gains, despite being small on paper, change the car into a proper weapon! The 12C is quick, the 650S is silly quick!

Iris is 2nd generation and does work. The rear view camera does occasionally lock on, but apart from that (and the phone...) all is good.

Never have any scraping on speed humps with the lifter, plenty of clearance.

As for values, who knows.... On one hand, you could argue the 12C, as the "original" would be a better car to keep. On another, the 650S may be the better bet as a more developed car... You pays your monies and takes your chance...

I have no regrets ;-)

This is going to turn into 12C owners arguing the 12C is the best value for money and 650S owners arguing the 650S is the bette car....
At the end of the day, you alone can do your own man math, which will be unique to you.

Yes, the 650S is the better car, it is better put together and it is a tiny bit quicker (unless you do track days, I don't see this being a real advantage).

The 12C is undoubtably the best value for money and if you already have one, the upgrade is pretty costly for the small improvements.

But, it is down to your budget and what you can afford. If you can get by the fugly design, and money is no or little concern, then yes the 650S is a step forward.
But if you can justify a 60k spend for what is a small upgrade, you may as well justify a 110k upgrade to a 675 !

Have a test drive of the 650 and find out for yourself. I personally did not find the performance improvements people are talking about, but yes, it is a nicer and better finished car. And as I still prefer the 12C styling, I have kept it and the 60k for better use !

Performance wise - yes. Aesthetically - no.

12C looks great but IMHO the 650S looks totally awesome.
The P1 swan lights are now McLarens corporate nose effectively so the 12C is the odd fugly one out

Shame they don't offer both the ugly swan lights for those who prefer them and the (in my view) more elegant front end of the 12c.

12c is a much more elegant looking design from the front.

For looks, I much prefer the 12C.

It reminds me of the Porsche Carrera GT ... but of course it's a much more modern car in so many ways, it's beautifully built, just as exclusive and best of all, a third of the price !

And no carbon clutch !!

Problem with the 650's looks is that it has borrowed someone else's face. The eventually much rarer design language of the 12C belongs all to itself - it was born that way. It is Helen Mirren to the 650's Jocelyn Wildensteen...
