help finding my father's old mg

As per the title, I would like to find my dad's old mgb roadster. I know I could go out tomorrow and buy one similar but for sentimental reasons I would like to attempt to buy his old car back. I checked on the dvla enquires and it's not been mot.d since he sold it. However it is sorned.

What I would like to know is, how would I go about finding the address of where the car is registered to so I can write to the current owner?

Probably get shot down for this but how about trying to contact the guy he sold it to originally and working from there?

That would be ideal but I have no name, phone numbers or address.
I would write to the dvla but there not very helpful.!

No, the DVLA will only give you that information if you have a good reason, and I don't think yours counts.

Another way might be to post some details here, or on one or more MG and classic-related forums, and see whether anyone owns up. It's happened before, there was quite a recent thread along those same lines when the current owner of a car saw a post and got in touch.

This + contact the MGCC and or MGOC. Both clubs have regular magazines which have a 'lost and found' section where those searching for a car can have the cars description put in print; the service is normally free.
