Porsche PPI -v- Indy
Discussion
Hi, I'm looking at getting a 997 (my first Porsche
) and would appreciate views on which is better - a Porsche main dealer PPI or an Indy. I tend towards Indy, but the seller is suggesting main dealer as they supplied & serviced the car from new. I'm aware of the bore-scoring & IMS bearing issues and want to make sure I have as much assurance as is possible before parting with my cash. TIA

I tend to think that the Indys rely so much on their local reputation and specialist knowledge that they have to be v good, whereas Porsche may be less inclined to highlight issues which could arise, because they'd rather downplay any problems, if that makes sense. I'm waiting to speak to the local Indy place, so hopefully will get something organised this week. I've been looking for months and have finally found THE ONE .... so trying to keep calm.
Peter Morgan inspections. He has a great reputation, I was suggested him by Steve at JAZ, and I would always trust Steve's opinion. Peter Morgan is probably one of the more expensive options, but the report I got was a 5 page document that was incredibly thorougher, covering everything from the history, to the paint work, to engine, everything. My car didn't have its original service book the man doing the inspection (A great guy called Bob, not actually Peter himself) went so far as to chase up the service history to prove that the stamps were genuine in the new service book, and that all recalls had been done, supplying me with the documents from Porsche to back it all up. As they are mobile they also work around you, which meant I didnt have to worry about relying on the seller to get the car to a garage to have it done. Honestly, great stuff.
Yes, Gilliam, I'd read lots of recommendations for Peter Morgan and tried them, but the car's outside the area they cover - SE M25, so they wouldn't do it sadly. Its interesting what you say about having no service record, because a car I was interested in had no service record (the dealer had lost it!) and so I left it, thinking I just couldn't go on the little information the dealer and the Porsche main dealer who serviced the car could provide - too many gaps. Shame, since it was a great car and its still for sale.
Never mind, I'll see how I get on with Parr's in Crawley - they've been very helpful so far.

No, he's not advising, but wasn't prepared to drive it anywhere and wanted it to be done at his home. He did suggest the Porsche dealer that serviced the car, but I'm going to stick with an Indy. If Parr's can't do it, I'll see what 911E say.
Mind you, I haven't driven it yet!! He was reluctant when I viewed it and muttered about insurance. AFAIK I'll only have 3rd party on another car anyway through my insurance, won't I? So what else can I do? I can understand him being wary of potential buyers driving it badly, I'm going to be cautious when it comes to selling my 330, but there's not a lot you can do about it, is there?
