In Italy I need Tamora help..it.keeps cutting out
Discussion
Hi all I'm just over the boarder in Italy and all the car has done is cut out total loss of electrics. I think it could be an earth issue . Trouble is I have brought Varleys book with me . Can someone kindly post the earthing points on the car. I've spoken with Ian at TvR and we went thro' a few things trouble is the time I'd tried those it was 6 pm
Basically all the sensors on the dash go mad Saying I have 187*c engine temp, Ecuador error! water temp era! oil temp error ! fuel pressure error etc I then loose all electrics on the dash lights and just about everything else the car will run for a while. I've by passed the 125am fuse under the air box but still no joy then when pushing it into the car park and went down the hill all the electrics came back, fired up etc drove it to a spot and then lost all the electrics again as I was pulling the special thingy;) 5to access the boot all the electrics came on.....strange any help would be great
Cheers

Hope you've sorted the problme out. There used to be a TVR specialist near Monza from memory. I did a road trip several years ago and broke down. They fitted a new clutch for me in my Tamora. Can't find any details on here. Does anyone else know who i mean? Good luck getting it fixed.
Hi Buzz
Hope you have got your problems solved already. If not here are some possibilities...
Assuming all of the 125A fuses are OK.
- The earthing strap from the engine block on the right hand side of the block - goes from the block to the chassis at the back of the drivers side wheel
- The earthing strap from the engine block on the front left side of the block - also where a few other things earth depending on who has done what to your car!
- The two multi pin connectors which connect the engine bay loom to the ECU through the bulk head - they are behind the air box - these cables contain the sensor feeds from the engine sensors to the engine and ECUs. Make sure that they are completely seated but be careful when you go to turn them because the can come loose on the other side of the bulk head and if you twist too much you can damage the cables on the interior side. My Tam threw its toys quite like yours when these connectors go soaked by a leaking windscreen washer hose.
- The battery side of the 17mm earth bolt can come loose. Makes sure it is tight, and not corroded, any looseness in that can create nightmares.
- If you have a mulitmeter with you, check the voltage between the battery earth terminal and all of the earth points. Look for voltage and not resistance both with KIEO and KIER.
- Try starting the car without the alternator connected - make sure that the the connectors you remove are insulated!
If you get anywhere or need more help feel free to PM or call. I have spent a lot of time digging into Tam electrics recently!
Good luck

Hi all
Back in the UK after a brill holiday and 2300 miles but a big thanks goes to Igiveup who posted the link to the earth strap in the passenger footwell....I owe you beer. It was a bit of a botch job who ever connected the earthing leads to the earth strapon the lead from the main chassis was a complete arse. The bolt had jammed and the earth leads had been aroldited to the bolt and of course years of use final cracked and they started moving about.
Because we couldn't tighten it or remove it I used a small pair of mole grips which fitted in between the bolt head and the earthing straps nice and tight, clamped the shut and gaffa tapped them together hey presto no more problems... The loose earths gave some crazy dash reading in particular the temp read of the water at 187*c and the oil at 120*c! Yet the fans weren't on used the infrared thermometer gun and the engine was 90*c
Anyway Had a brill holiday thro' Belgium,Austria,Germany, Switzerland and Italy......as we all know the Italians are chuffing mental drivers also managed 165mph on the Autobhan gps verified with a bit left the go old 4.3 and averaged around 28-30 mpg...I was gob smacked!altho'down the other side of theStelvio it was much much less. I had stop at the little cafe 1/2 down the other side as the brakes were erm done when I pulled up all four comers where smoking heavily
I'll post the footage once I've down loaded the footage from my go-pro
I giveup.... I owe you a beer sir.... Thanks to everyone else who took the time out to post I really appriciate it
Thanks everyone
