Assuming that they had to be road legal, what track tyres are you chaps running on 964's these days? My car is a C2 on KW Clubsport suspension. The default apprears to be toyo 888 but In my Experience ( mainly GT3 ) They go off reasonably quickly. The lighter, less grunty 964's may be a little better suited?

Anyway, Thank you in advance.

I'm one of the many that use the Toyo 888. As you say, it's been a popular choice with those of us doing trackdays in 964s and 964RSs. Once at the right hot pressure I've found them good for 10 laps of Oulton Park before they get a bit squirmy. However I'm unlikely to push the car as much as you Steve!

I hear that Toyo are about to supercede it with the 888-R. Hopefully this might be even better?

I should also add that like many, I run 17 inch wheels. This means that track tyres like the Michelin cups are not available as you can't get them in 17 inch fitment.

p.s. the 888s whine like crazy on the road!

Wot he said.

888s, not the most finesse, but great price point. I dont think the going off is such a deal on the 964, they seem to last pretty well. Not bad in the wet either, considering their tread.

I also run 17" wheels, seems to suit the cars nicely.

Steve on 17 I have run the 888 and find they are good once the pressure has settled. But I prefer to run 18 and then run 265 and 235 on cup 2 as choice. On my wide 964 I have just purchased 888r in 275/40 and 225 but have not run them yet.

I just find that 17 restricts the choice so much and have had no issues with running 18

Will let you know about the 888r

Thank you for taking the trouble to post Guys. I'm running 18's so am torn between the Toyo's and Cup 2's. Ken, would be interested in your thoughts on the new Toyo. I'm running a very stiff set up on the 64. my 993 Clubbie is running Supercup spring rates and does not get on with the Old Cup at all. Just can't get them to come in. A softer set up would help.

I may just run the 64 on the same slicks as the 93 and be done with it.

Cup 2s are very good in the wet if your 964 is mostly road car. I use them all year round with no probs even below freezing. They're not bad on track and last 50% longer than Cups. Toyos have always been average in the wet and cold. Be interesting to hear if the new R is any different but there isn't going to be much cold wet weather at this time of year.

BTW, Oponeo are discounting R888s at the moment - I just bought a set for the 964 (225/45R17 and 255/40R17) for £516 delivered. However they don't have them in 18 at all, nor the R888R.

I'd run 18" wheels and Cup 2s, best tyre by far. I use them on my race RSR 993.

Steve, at the moment on my wide bodied 964 I am putting on pss10 (might change the springs to Eibach later), running solid everything else. So it will be softer in spring rate than you are running, but having run this set up before on 964 at Spa, it corners on rails. I just got the 888r this morning and will be at Spa on 6th and 7th July so will report back on the tyres. It will get a good test over the two days. I still think the cup 2 will be better based on my experience with 888, but they say the R version is much better - we will see. So at least I will have a like for like comparison between the 888 and 888r at Spa

Hi Ken. Wondered how the New Toyo's performed at Spa?
