I'm going to remove my manifolds and am trying to decide if I should ceramic coat or heat wrap them.

Is it possible to remove the manifolds without taking out the gearbox?

If it is I might heat wrap them for the time being and then get them ceramic coated over the winter.

So I'm looking for the best options for both.

I'm guessing Zircotec is a good ceramic option.

Can anyone recommend a good heat wrap and procedure?

I have standard headers.

Best wishes

A down side of wrapping, is they can soak up fluids, and potentially rot the manifolds I have seen said. I have wrapped a set before and not seen this happen. Wrapping is a horrid job though, and it can be quite easy to damage.

Thanks Dan, I might do it for the short term - what wrap did you use?

I used titanium heat wrap

https://www.designengineering.com//category/catalo...

Whilst it has made a difference in under bonnet temps it becomes brittle and when touched can just full off after a few years. As said can be damaged easily and itches like f@@k when disturbed that includes changing spark plugs.

I hate removing the manifolds refitting is even worse. Messenger side heater pipes header tank etc got to be removed to get room.

Worth doing but long term save the money and go straight to a coating.

+1 for the zircotec coating

I'm going to do it as well on my performance manifolds
Heat wrap is a b***ch to put on properly.
Did it on my Thruxton and wouldn't want to do it on a Cerb manifold.
As said soaks up water and the added thickness wont help when you're putting them back in
Gets steamy when the soaked up water evaporates...

Not on my S and looks like an engine mount needs to out on my Tamora. I do not own a Cerb.

No need to remove the gearbox.

Lift/jack the engine, remove/disconnect front engine mounts. Shunt the engine all the way to the offside, remove nearside manifold, then shunt the engine all the way to the opposite side and remove the other manifold.

Its worth trying before you disconnect the engine from its mounts
Mine came out with the engine in place.
Water rails and all that stuff were off though.

Has anyone had standard headers Zircotec coated?
Was the turnaround time long?

Wrap works better but coating looks better and lasts better. My current ones are wrapped and if I stick my finger tip on them when fully hot I will not get burned, dont try that with coated ones. My new ACTs will be coated though, it just looks better and works well enough to get the temps down.

I asked about this for my manifolds for a Tamora, here's part of the reply:

"Regarding pricing; for a TVR S6 6 cylinder (2 x 3) manifold, the cost to coat is £327.00 for Primary Black™; £468 for Performance White™ or £538 for any from our Performance Colours™ range. Prices exclude shipping and VAT. Turnaround time is approximately 15 working days with payment accepted via credit card or bank transfer."

Expect to be without manifolds for a bit.
I sent mine In on the 11.3.2015 and I received
Them back on the 22.4.2015
£940.80 all in for ACT performance manifolds
In performance white.

Impressed with quality and heat reduction
Not impressed with service as I got quoted
3-4 weeks.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what the standard headers are made of?

If they are then I'll wrap them in DEI Titanium.
I'll clean, thoroughly degrease first and coat with DEI HT Silicone Coating afterwards.
