Does it have anything written at the base of the dial?
If it says "3aka3 mo cccp" it's what's referred to as a 'Ministry' watch, only available through the Soviet military forces (and is Cold War era, hence "CCCP"), not issued, but the equivalent of being available only through a NAAFI.

It doesn't look like a later one, which would be marked like this - http://russian-sales.com/collection/komandirskie/w...

I'm not sure on the age of your watch, can't quite place it.
To me, I suspect it's a "bitsa", very common from all over Russia and ex-Soviet bloc countries.

You know the Uzbek tradition of course?

When an elderly relative gives you his watch you immediately have to take your's off and give it to him in exchange. It's very offensive if you don't. Were you by any chance wearing a Rolex at the time?

That's an Amphibian 420. You can but them new here:

& here:

Not sure the crest means anything. There appears to be a selection of crests available on these watches, must be fashionable in the land of vodka. The bezels are also interchangeable. I couldn't see your exact bezel on any of meranom's watches (didn't look at the Chistopol site), but that doesn't mean the watch isn't a 420.

Good value for a mechanical dive watch, they look hard to beat. I'm waiting stock from the meranom website before taking the plunge. Need a watch to attach to my bouyancy aid for kayaking.
