Newbie to the forums, but in the past 3 weeks have read just about everything on the Sat-Nav / TMC woes of everyone!

I've managed to update the Nav to the 2014 maps, and it's enabled the TMC options, though they're still greyed out.

When going in to the service menu, it says "(m) TMC receiver - 01 w/o TMC" (have tried to attach pic)

Now, I'm guessing, but think this means the car hasn't got a TMC receiver, hence the options being greyed out in the Nav. A quick google got me to this part number 4G43-37-10474 which is called "TMC TUNER" available from scuderiacarparts.

Don't suppose any of you know if it's just a case of buying this part, slapping it in and therefore enabling traffic info, or am I just being naïve?!

Thanks for any advice/info any of you can give.

Can't remember the reason but TMC has been disabled in the UK on the car

Hi Neil,
Yep, thanks... I'd managed to find that out, and I think it's something to do with Aston not wanting to pay the £20 per car license fee back then.

There's been quite a bit of talk about updating the maps and software with Volvo discs, (which have the relevant license code on) to enable it, but I'm guessing without the actual receiver, it'll never work.

I suppose the actual question is - If I've updated the software and add the TMC receiver I mentioned, should it all start to work?

I (normally) don't use sat nav to tell me how to get where I'm going, more to let me know how long it will take!

Cheers,
Tony.

Perhaps just a UK licence issue...

Out of interest, how do you get to the service menu?

Long shot, my wife years ago had a BMW that wasn't meant to have TMC on the NAV. Upgraded the map to an "TMC" one but as it didn't have a dedicated tuner for the TMC reception it didn't seem to work. However it did if you tuned the normal radio into Classic FM (which I believe is/was the usual channel for TMC info). Might be worth a go.

Cockey - for the service menu:
With SatNav on, turn off ignition. (screen will close)
Lock car and wait 5 mins (if you don't wait, the AM logo won't appear on screen)
Put key to position 1 and then press "BACK" "ENTER"

Jonsv8 - Thanks for that, I'll give it a go.

Thanks chaps.

3 posts and one name change, what's that all about. Oh and you appear to be buggering about with your sat nav in the office car park when one assumes you should actually be working biggrin

Out of interest what is in the 'service menu' ?

Reason I ask , my car has just been serviced 2 weeks ago by an AM independent for the first time, today I saw the message telling me the car is due a service. Can I solve this or does the car need to go back to the independent ?

Yep - I had that too...

DB9 and V8 can be done without the AMDS. I have yet to find one that this doesnt work on.
1. Shut all doors
2. With key in position 1 hold the t1/t2 button in the center stack.
3. Turn key to position 2 still holding the t1/t2 button.
4. Watch for the yellow triangle to start to flash at least three times, let go of t1/t2 button after three flashes. Should hear a audible beep.
5. Turn key on making sure service light is off

  • IN THE END, HELD T1/T2 THEN INSERTED AND TURNED KEY TO '3' AND WAITED FOR 3 FLASHES

No problem - that last bit should've said "BACK" "ENTER" "BACK"
