BMW CI Future Classic?

What is the view on the late 90's BMW 840 CI 4.4 as a future classic?

It seems to me to be a lot of car for the money with most listings at between £5k and £10k, per these examples:

IMO it will certainly be a classic, but a hugely valuable one? Not so sure. We have a low mileage 1979 E24 635csi, it's an amazing car, it certainly is a classic and it's pretty unique, value? About £10k.

Selling a yellow 8 series for £10k and can't be bothered to invest a few quid in a some Alpina badges that aren't faded.

Could be a right lemon underneath.

850csi most probably, 840ci? Not so sure..

Yes, Dogleg box & LSD...its an early E12 based car. Was this a common spec for early cars then?

I believe so, my old man held a main dealer from 75 until the early 90s and said all the manual early 635s he sold had dog leg boxes, an LSD and Recaros unless the customer specified the comfort 'tombstones'. Would love an E12 M535, my dad always told me those and the early E24s were "lethal" in the wet

IMO by the time these things become classics – to the extent that you don't need to ask whether or not its a classic – then whether or not it's an 840 or 850 will be academic. I think they're immensely stylish cars, beautiful things really. I was seriously looking at buying one of these as a daily until I realised the likely fuel bill, and got an A6 Tdi instead.
