Hi all,
Been reading a lot of posts about V8 Vantages on here, very useful realworld forum this.
I tend to only keep a car for about a year as I start to get bored in that time.
So need a little more info now.. Can someone tell me how values of 2005-2007 cars are holding up. Dealers are telling me they are solid, but they would tell me that lol.
I can see a lot at around £29-34k at the moment, and was thinking of buying one. All I have seen across the price range seem to have full Main dealer service history so appear looked after.
So my two questions are:
If I buy private 06/07 car, then will it tend to lose much (more than £4k) in value with an additional 6k miles in 12 months time ?
Do these cars hang around the classified for months or can you move them on relatively quickly if priced sensibly compared to others up for sale taking into account condition/mileage ?
If someone has recent experience of something similar to my Q's then please share as would be really useful
Thanks very much for any helpful light you can shed for me.

Dealer needs to make a profit. Even if you don't do any miles in it the trade price difference will be more than 4k
Unless you then sell privately.
They are always going to be fairly specialised cars, but I think if they are priced sensibly they don't hang around too long. I know I bought mine fairly quickly after it went up for sale - and I called about a keenly priced 2007 and left a couple of messages but never heard back so I assume that went.
When I was looking, I was initially considering something around 2008 because I liked some of the options that came with the later cars. However, I decided that I wasn't sure how much I'd actually like the car, and I didn't want to risk paying for depreciation on a car I might not get on with. So I bought 2006 figuring it was near the bottom of the curve and shouldn't drop by much.
When I was looking, there were a couple of cars in the colour / spec I was interested in that I felt were a tad overpriced - at least one of them is still for sale (I bought mine 7 weeks ago).
So I think if you get a decent price when you buy and you price sensibly when you sell, it will go. If you are optimistic with your sale price, it will sit around - same as any other car.

Hi Steve,
it all depends where/when you buy and where/when you sell.
I bought an '07 V8V Christmas eve 2013 (privately) and just sold (again, privately).
Did 7k miles and sold at a profit, including having had a main dealer service, plus new boots all round.
However, I'm technically competent and happy to check out a car myself, as well as fix most things.
As Neil says, the dealers will want to make a £4k profit for storing the car for a few weeks and a 30-minute lookover...
Prices do change between summer and winter - if you are really serious about not losing too much, then you need to wait until the 'low season' and be prepared to haggle/walk away.
Also, read as much as you can to learn about the cars and what you really want/need.
Some extras are useful, like bluetooth and cruise. Some are nice-to-have, like Premium audio (there isn't much of a difference, despite what many on here may say).
Good luck with the search and feel free to get in touch if you need help with anything.

as above advice, its all about how you buy and sell
buy private from a motivated seller and get low market price, then sell a year later you might not lose anything, so its cost you a service/tax/fuel/insurance
buy from a dealer and then trade in at a dealer and its going to be a few thousand pounds each time...dealers don't work for free
that's it really. Prices have been fairly stable for a few years now IMO, and mostly based on condition/options/colours

Thanks everyone for those thoughts.
I am thinking then that these are behaving very much as M3's 911S' in terms of prices depreciation. I thought these would be more solid perhaps as they are more rare. But am glad I asked you the question.
Any other advice, thoughts always welcome.
I am ideally looking for a silver one with the Automated Manual (as I am 6'6" tall with long legs) due to my left knee touching the steering when on the clutch.

Base 2006/2007 models have very strong residuals, my old 2007 car is now more expensive than when I bought it. Speaking to the dealer a couple of weeks ago about this very subject, it was said that you could buy one, run it for a year and nearly get your money back.
I bought my 2007 V8V in late 2012/early 2013 for 36.5k with 26k miles. Sold it to the dealer for £32.5k a year later. Now for sale at £38k.
