Handbrake cable route help

Can anyone help with how the handbrake cable is supposed to be routed ?

I've tried over the top of the chassis with the adjuster on the nearside and through the chassis with the adjuster on the offside - which is correct ??

You adjust cable at the n/s caliper

When I'd rebuilt the rear end of mine I tried every which way to see how it fit best and it ends up curving off to the offside first with the adjuster (as said) at the nearside caliper. I think the cable rubs against the offside fuel tank though. I found it was easier to squirt some grease into the nipple before I connected the cable.
