Green Oval Takeover
Discussion
Since I was a child I have always had a soft spot for Landies and so aged 21 I purchased my first

My 1967 IIA 2.25 petrol 109" (Tilly) as seen when it blew a halfshaft on the way home from picking it up...
A few mods later (galv. chassis, 200TDi and parabolics among others) (there is a thread on here somewhere about the rebuild) and she looks... Pretty much the same...

and as is the way with a Landie she has been extremely useful dragging trailers, as a tent, moving furniture and even getting muddy occasionally.

Indeed a IIA is many things but a refined mile muncher it is not. There was another itch to scratch. Several mates have Discos but they have never quite had the same appeal to me as the Range Rover.
Ended up driving past a 93L V8 (LPG) manual on the Clee a few weeks back and couldn't resist taking a look

Was quite tidy (aside from a little rot on the bulkhead) so I set out on e-bay to see what they were selling at to see how much I could try and whittle the price down on it and I found another one (a 300TDi Auto) in Shrewsbury. Seemed rude not to go and have a look. So with abad influence second pair of eyes in the shape of my mate John we set off.
I ended up putting a deposit down on the 300TDi and collected it 3 days later (after the owner put a new MOT on it)

Instantly we set it to work...

It's done 188k miles, had all the rot spots replaced and several other fixes done to it.

Also found that a previous owner is floating around here too, gave me some extra info on the history of the old girl which was a nice bonus (though also made me realise that the SRS light was faulty, even managed to go through an MOT with it out).
The swivel housing was making a funky noise but a shot of grease appears to have sorted that (though I'm concerned I managed to put the whole shot in despite no sign of a leak). The steering damper feels a bit lazy and the EGR blank kit still hasn't arrived. Only other issue (apparent) is the drivers seat is giving away the 188k on the clock, needs a bit of a tidy up (though the back seat is immaculate).
Complete with John's Disco, his lightweight (currently in jigsaw spec. awaiting reassembly on a galv. chassis) and the 110 I'm storing for someone else we almost have a full set

Will add more pics of both when I've resized the pics

If that Classic was at Horace's (Hopton Wafers) - and I know of no other pile of vehicles so tightly packed up there! - you had a lucky escape. Not much of any use ever came out of there...
... Apart, that is, from the V12 Daimler hearse I bought there in 1990 - £500 and a lot of fun later it suffered a rather undignified end in a field...

It was indeed at 'onest 'arrold's emporium! Looked quite clean though (unlike several of the cars dotted around).... Apart, that is, from the V12 Daimler hearse I bought there in 1990 - £500 and a lot of fun later it suffered a rather undignified end in a field...
Out at Shobdon today and the bloody back box fell off the exhaust coming down the side of the runway
. I'll add that to the bloody to-do list

So it's a Friday night and I'm pooped so as promised the 'Tilly' story
In the beginning there was a green 1967 109 I found on E-bay over in Essex. Business was conducted and I started to drive home. Recovered from the overheat and even the air in the brakes (my undies nearly didn't though
) but a halfshaft busting in Coventry led to a recovery truck taking me home (and this, the very first pic of the truck christened Tilly)

Petrol engine was like a sewing machine but 12mpg was hard to stomach so a £300 shed of a 200TDi Disco was sourced and I found a man to take on the job. Took the old bus up before work one morning and popped by on the way home most nights to check on progress.
First was the strip down

The body was unbolted from the chassis and the body hung in the barn out of the way

and the realisation that a galv chassis was going to be a worthwhile investment
[/URL]

So the new chassis arrived and was painted up

Then the old chassis was put under the ramps so the axles could be moved out onto the new one

Then the rebuild started in earnest.
The 200TDi engine and 2.25 gearbox are compatible, just need to tap a few holes in the bellhousing. Another bonus is the IIA chassis and 200TDi mounts line up so it 'just' bolts up... We did have to move the battery from under the bonnet and install it under the passenger seat though.

The only issue is the 200TDi turbo exit on a 109, it doesn't give clearance (unless you cut a hole and run it through the chassis
) but a 300TDi turbo exits at a different angle. A 300 turbo and manifold were promptly found and fitted.

Some conversions have the intercooler lined up with the rad, mine was (for some reason) installed slightly forward

The PAS pump was also removed and a suitable belt fitted.

The body was then put back onto the chassis

All snug and fitted

... and straight out into use in the snow (this was actually the day I got 'er back from the garage)

Since then I have done a few jobs to 'er. Painted the door tops to a (somewhere near) matching shade of green

and even a shiny set of new seats from Sam's Trim

The other brilliant upgrade (courtesy of Auto Electric Supplies) was swapping the sealed beams for H4 conversions. Can you tell which one I did first?
