So I was thinking, when turboing a non turbo car (not necessarily a chimaera) the problem as I believe is the maf sensor cant read positive pressure so it freaks out hence why turbo cars have a map sensor not a maf. Now what if you placed the maf sensor before the turbo, surely the air (lots more )will be sucked past it as the turbo spins but wouldn't be compressed like it is the charged side of the turbo, so it wouldn't be positive pressure.

Before i get slated and banished to the naughty step for suggesting you COULD turbo a car without proper standalone wizardary I'm by no means saying this is a decent turbo set up just purely curious.

Don't think you need special Jiggery Pokery every time, it depends on the car & how much boost you are adding I suspect.

I Turbo Charged my MX-5 without adding ECU etc.
As I remember it needed a higher pressure fuel regulator & that was it (Blue round bit just under the Air Cone).
But the MX-5 engine was already a turbo ready engine for Low Boost.
For Higher boost, the internals needed upgraded, new Injectors & ECU to remove the MAF (there may have been some position sensor, but it was a while ago).

MAF is an airflow meter, it knows nothing about pressure positive or negative... it just measures mass/volume of air passing through.

Whether NA, SC, Turbo, FA (fart enabled aka NOS) it still just measures how mush air is going past. You may ask how accurate is the metering ~ how does that relate to the map, and that typically the MAF is closely associated with the Lucas ECU.... but like any sensor it just measures something (within its manufactured tolerances).

Can't see why MAF wouldn't work on a forced induction application although any dumping of pressure to atmosphere would confuse it - just recirculate

That is why the scpower kit has a plenum prior to the blower with the outlet from the dump valve fed into so as not to confuse the maf if using the lucas ecu most go aftermarket though

Its not the MAF you want to worry about so much as the ignition timing, as the dizzy vacuum advance is not designed to shift the timing based on positive pressure in the plenum- I do believe there are some fairly crude workarounds if you like 1980's technology.

Yes, just rip out the 14CUX, plug in your old Sinclair Spectrum, and you can turn TVR's finest into a Sinclair C5.
Mount your old Sony Video Camera on the targa hoop, Sony Betamax recorder in the boot, and you can record your exploits for us all to enjoy hehe

This happened on a Supra turbo I had that came with an aftermarket dump valve, it would near stall if I pulled up to a roundabout quickly.
