Gravity....Now 'one helluva ride'
Discussion
I thought it handled well before, last Geo being through Parr in 06.
Camber, cross camber and toe were out , and riding too low at back. Had enormous grip at rear, but front was sniffing about, and would lose traction and under steer, car was raised 8mm and 13mm on rear, allowing adjustment of camber.
Rake was also incorrect, and raised 1 degree.
Corner weights were well out, leading to 'squabbling Sisters' I think the term was, front tyres fighting against themselves.
The front dampers were leaking oil into the sleeve, so replaced them with Bilstein Sports. Rears fine, as were all the bushes, ball joints etc.
The car now is far more stable at high speed, with finger tip control on cornering. Weight on cornering has in effect been moved forward, increasing grip on front, and decreasing slightly the grip on rear. The balance and progressive controllable slip you can induce now is intoxicating, with no chance of the sudden loss at the rear or under steer at front.
Running sticky Avon CR6zz ,7 and 8's that are again superb IMO, so that compliments the set up.
Weight at 1157kg fully wet. The engine is running 230 bhp on last Dyno, with great pick up and torque, and I replaced clutch, flywheel and second gear with synchro 's so last year.
Now with the Geo set to fast A/B road use, combined with this set up, it's all I could really wish for.
ST booked in early August.....917kg wet, with 250bhp off 2.5lt S engine.
At the moment, the RS would murder it cross country....can't wait to compare.
