Some of you may have seen me posting in the Mclaren and Ferrari forums as I've been toying over the idea of a 12C or 458. Gallardo has always been in my dream garage but I wrote it off as I assumed the single clutch e-gear transmission was a bit dated. Having seen one driving in my city last night, it brought my love back for the car!

I wanted to know how the automatic transmission is for using on a day-to-day basis in stop start traffic, and if the clutch is reliable? Is the gear change smooth compared to do that of the double clutch transmissions these days, and in general any other thoughts would be appreciated?

I'm not too clued up on the different versions to be honest, but I would be looking for the facelift and a model that's 2010 or newer.

Thanks smile

I loved the egear in my 560. I will admit I rarely used the Auto mode but it seemed perfectly adequate when called on.
The changes in manual were sweet though, you do get a definite "moment" with a single clutch, you feel the change and you know something has happened. If you have it in Corsa you get a glorious kick in the back that fuses you and the car together in a tactile event.

The box in the Huracan is so staggeringly perfect it takes your breath away but at the same time completely disconnects you from the driving experience, it is the much discussed Playstation feel, nothing happens at all except the revs dip.

I do love the box in my Mac and in Track Mode it gives me a modicum of feedback but the LP could piss all over it in real world wide grins.
I loved the LP. The looks (unsurpassed even now), the grip, the handling and most of all the feeling that the car is just ready to beat you up any time you switch off.

I know you've been looking at 12C's and they are sublime, definitely a step forward from the Gallardo in technological terms, but if you want a supercar that just doesn't give a fk about the niceties and conformities of your personal opinion then buy one.

Great, great cars. I may buy one again, it's a unique experience.

There is something about a Lambo.

I drive a 560-4 spyder daily. The eGear is fine. just learn to drive it correctly. Lift the foot a little when changing up. It's a great car for every day!

LP cars very happy in traffic, pre LP hated it.... As said, not seamless but emotive and smooth enough when mastered.

In slow traffic you can always tell when a pre-LP eGear is rented rather than owned!

Only time I come unstuck with the e-gear is when a slowing to a near halt then accelerating situation arises. The car will decide to drop a gear at just the wrong moment and you'll end up doing a very jerky pull away.

Doesn't happen often but if your passenger is drinking a cup of coffee when it does you'll be in for an earful and apparently "it was the car not me" is not a valid excuse!
