On a couple of occasions when I have mashed the accelerator to the floor, then lifted my foot to change up, the throttle has stayed open. This results in either manic acceleration to mental speed, it just keeps pulling! or a crazed bouncing off the rev limiter if I dip the clutch. Further stamping on the pedal eventually releases it, thank God there has been large gaps in the traffic.
Is there a simple adjustment, and how much damage is being caused by bouncing off the rev limiter?. If I give in to mechanical sympathy it results in one crazy ride.
Cheers

Mine did this. New cable fixed the problem for me.

I expect the cable is frayed inside the outer cover and is snagging. Only cure is previous suggestion.

Though you could check the pedal is not fouling on any dangly wires or carpet.

Snagging on the carpet seems quite common especially if the carpets have been hung up to dry at any point (makes them curl up at the edges). It's a potentially very dangerous problem so if you have any doubt at all, tape the bottom end of the carpet down or take it out completely.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I checked the cable and there is no evidence of fraying, the carpet on the other hand is curled and did move about. I have applied some heavy duty velcro to the bottom of it to fix it in place.
I have just done a 300 mile round trip to Cornwall today and this seems to have fixed the problem. Not too many oportunities to use full throttle though.
Cheers

Ours did this, even with a new throttle cable. Turned out to be related to the cable shroud being loose in the bulkhead hole where it comes through from the engine bay. Had no more problems since the shroud has been securely fixed in the hole. Luckily it only happened when stationary - a V8 on full throttle jangles the nerves a bit!

if the throttle has stuck on full bore a few times watch the fan belt - excessive revs, especially if not under load, can often break the back of a fan belt and they go soon afterwards - happened twice on my wedge each time preceded by a stuck throttle cable - (loose carpet to blame!)
