Anyone experienced with XDAs and home networking (wireless)?

Trying to get my new toy connected to my wireless network to browse the net but am struggling (am also connecting to someone else's wireless net up the street!).

Does other stuff connect to your wireless setup?

Probably stating the obvious, but
-Probably best to ensure all firewall stuff is turned off
-is some form of auto detect enabled?
-how does an ip address get assigned on the xda (btw what is an xda)

My Toshiba PDA (running PocketPC 2003, so almost the same thing but without the mobile and GPRS bits) was a right :cenosred: to connect, in the end the Toshiba bits automatically did it for me.

I get the distinct impression they are designed for lowest common denominator and not someone who knows what they are doing.

some of them cant cope with WEP implementation.

Try disabling WEP and see if it connects..

Also dont forget to check for MAC address lockdown.

It'll connect ok - either to my local network or to the bloke's up the road.

What I want to do is ensure it's always my network that it connects to. When connected what do I need to do to get IE to use that connection rather than try GPRS?

Ted,

Have a word with Lake, he's got an XDA clone and wireless network, so may well have encountered the same problems as yourself.

Ted

This sounds like a similar setup to my axim, although the axim uses bluetooth and gprs via a phone. Mine will try.

Sync cable first
Wifi second
GPRS third

Unless the wifi connection is turned off.

There is some stuff on the settings, connections, connections menu that might help.

Have an ipaq (5550) which quite happily picks up any network arounbd and seems to want to ock onto whichever is the strongest at the moment. Pocketwinc from Cirond seems to have solved the problem. About £15 IIRC.. Has a free trial period which will be long enough for you to test it to see if it does the job..
