Toad!! (I think...)

Possibly a common toad, Bufo bufo. He seems to have good eyesight and won't let me get too close with my iPhone.




What is it doing in the water? Surely it's well past breeding season - is it just cooling off in the heat?

Interesting, yes most often they wander off even into very dry areas after breeding, and aren't fussed about needing water or damp like frogs.
