A sobering thread. I thought I'd try and balance the scales by asking what your happiest memory is?

Mine will follow........

I think mine is catching frogs in my dad's back garden, aged about five. It was one of few short spells when he wasn't in hospital, and it makes me feel warm even now remembering him asleep in his hammock with the sun on him.

My dad walking me down the aisle in June and listening to his speech. Considering how nervous I knew he was speaking in front of everyone it made me very proud.

My parents could probably embarrass me with several stories of times when I was a child and got very excited about things, but I think one of my happies memories was actually fairly recently, in 2002. Tuscany, gorgeous summer sun, a 5-star hotel, stunning architecture and scenery, the best food I've had, dreamlike roads, classic cars, open-air nightclubs in ancient Roman spas, good friends, and the best wine I've ever tasted. I guess that perhaps I'm not old enough yet to value the other things that have been posted on this thread (yet), but I just remember getting up every morning and feeling, from dawn till dusk, 'this is where I belong'. I will go back there one day, to Monticatini Terme, but I don't know whether I'll ever recapture that initial amazement of those days, or seeing Firenze for the first time, again, a perfect memory.

Firstly, the birth of each of my four kids.

Secondly, when my wife and I recently hired a sports car and drove through the American Rockies (Lake Louise to Jasper was awesome).

I think mine is probably the final outcome of the tough times surrounding the birth of my daughter. My daughter was born prematurely at 35 weeks as mum had pre-eclamsia and kidney failure. Daughter promptly had heart failure and had to undergo heart surgery aged 5 days old. Weeks spent in intensive care were very lonely because we were working in South Africa and family couldn't really afford the trip.

Anyway when we finally had the go ahead to take them both home it was springtime in Johannesburg. The lilac Jacaranda trees are all in bloom at that time of the year and pulling out of the hospital in glorious African sunshine, Jacarandas lining the roads, fabulous blue skies and the freedom to start getting on with patrenting was a moment I won't forget in a hurry!

Loads of stuff...

The day I learnt that (despite not getting the grades I had been asked for) I was going to university was great. Not only did I know I would (finally) be leaving home in 2 months but it was really sunny and we just cruised around in my car with my friends. Played frisbee too.

The first time I made a novel compound and worked out what it was (im a geek).

Getting invited to apply for a PhD.

First time I really nailed a black run/360 ollie.

etc etc.

can't think of "happiest day", just loads of happy memories.

-Going to uni. Was the most exciting yet nervewracking time!
-Getting placed in a pre-novice last season. Getting the job on the yard I did - absolutely loved it. Best Gap year I could ever have had.
-Getting A Level results. So I did let myself down, but the relief was second to none.
-My dads wedding. Was such a magical day and I was really pleased with who he was marrying.
-My niece being born.
-Elder brother getting married
-First foal last summer. Now I know I've got something I can watch grow up, nurse nurture etc.
-Getting through to the England development hockey squad and travelling to brussels for the England junior event team.
- Seeing my (little) brothers doing well.
-Getting together with O/h. Despite the rough patch I think it's going to work, I can see us having a very long future together.

I have lots! Love to live for the moment and tend to have some great memories through it.

Never had a happiest day, just lots of happy memories.

My nan's 50th wedding anniversary- she died soon after.
My mum recovering from cancer.
Getting my first place on my own.
Picking up my MX.
My dad crying when I first moved out of home at 19. (Yes that was happy beleive it or not)

I am sure if I am fortunate enough to get married one day, that would be a happy memory, and If I am more fortunate enough to have children, that will also be a happy memory - I hope

I have lots of happy memories - fortunately - but on a PH note, two of my happiest were-

1/. My dads face as he completed a particularly hard climb on the Herefordshire Trial driving his 1928 Riley. he had been trying for years to complete it...

2/. Seeing my son get on the top step of the podium in the Northern Formula Ford Championship, followed up by a podium in National Zetec last year. All against the odds... no money, little testing.

Getting a trophy from Jackie Stewart at the Walter Hayes Festival at Silverstone in November, whilst my other son won his final as well.

Fantastic memories, brilliant achievements, just lovely.

One of my favorites is pitching the tent and putting my feet up to watch a fantastic sunset from the valley between Suilven and Canisp in Wester Ross.
The sun through the clouds and the shadow of Suilven was putting on a full-blown light show.

Glad to say that there are plenty more.

Birth of my 2 children. No contest, nothing could or will make me any happier.
