997 Gen II C2 advice
Discussion
Hi,
I've been to see a lovely Gen II C2 which I'm very seriously considering buying however two question niggle in my mind which I'm hoping you can help with. Firstly the car doesn't have a sports exhaust, I've struggled to find anywhere that says that you definitely can retrofit one and if you do will you end up falling fouls of noise regs at tracks such as Bedford? When I say sports exhaust I'm talking about something you can live wihit everyday but bring out more of the engine noise than a full on race exhaust. Secondly I'd like to do some trackdays with the new car, probably not an every weekend during the summer but a few through the year. The car doesn't have PASM, is this essential or would I really not notice/having too much fun anyway with the normal non-PASM suspension.
Many thanks in advance

Try my following thread for a significant debate surrounding exhaust upgrades:I've been to see a lovely Gen II C2 which I'm very seriously considering buying however two question niggle in my mind which I'm hoping you can help with. You can retrofit, there are many forum threads surrounding this topic so not sure where you are looking. No idea on noise regs.
No PASM, you'll miss this option....it really does change the whole dynamics of the car and specifically for track use! PASM on the hard setting was made for the track, so maybe not a must have but certainly would make things a whole lot better if you're not going to go down the aftermarket approach.
My C2 has lowered chassis & PASM and I've done good few track laps with sport on & off for comparison. Yes the car handles better with it but it's not a massive difference. When it's on you do notice less suspension movement during track compressions and slightly less lean on corners .However the standard setting still keeps more than acceptable reign on the body movements if not driving like a lunatic. When I first bought the car I tried sport on the road ( B roads)a few times but it was far too rigid....once my mate in a R32 drove away from me as my car was hopping and skipping so much it was undriveable. A standard steel suspended car on that day I suspect would only have been classed as lively. My car has the standard twin oval exhaust...over 5k revs it has a good howl from within the car but having heard it on a drive by video it's quieter from outside than expected. I'm happy enough with the exhaust note as the 997 already has a fair bit of road noise which can become wearing on longer trips. My car was bought pre-owned and PASM was not on my list of requirements when looking to buy it just so happened the car we liked had it. I do like the lowered chassis look , but if buying the same type car again ( which I would ) a standard car( no PASM ) in good condition ( with a sunroof...wife's spec! ) would be fine by me. The ph'er advice here would be try both ...but as the car has to be driven quite hard to appreciate the difference owners/ salesmen might want to stop the fun!!!!

You can retrofit PSE and that'll be fine at any track on quiet. I think Jackwood was ok at Bedford with a GTS and Sharkwerks bypass.
I think PSE would probably be fine whatever
My 7.1 GT3 is borderline for static test at Bedford (strictest track I know of?) and I can't believe PSE on a regular Carrera can be any louder. In terms of drive by, I was absolutely fine on the SEN circuit there even in sport which is pretty darn loudGassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
